Oi London Cops....

I was showing a Special Branch dude around an Airport yesterday and said I was ex Avon&Somerset blahblahblah…

Talking about joining again, nothing serious, just mentioned, that in the Met area, its a yearly intake, not 6 months now due to the large volume that are looking to join…

But he said that if you’re a special constable and you get a good record over time etc, and apply for the role of PC, if you pass the interview you dont do any further training, you have a week or 2 off whilst your admin is done and you go straight into employment with the regulars?

I thought it could be semi true. But normally going from SC to PC you left the special constabulary then went to the local forces HQ for 3 months of training and then started…

Obviously the guy knows more than me on this matter but can anyone can confirm the above is true?

If you have previous service in the job, he could well be right.

I know former colleagues who resigned and were out of the job for nearly 5 years, re-applied to come back in and all they were required to do was their local procedure course, which for most forces is 2 or 3 weeks.

Bear in mind you have already completed your basic training, and being a Special would just top up your already operational experience and probably just bring you back up to speed in respect of current legislation and local standing orders.

So, why I cannot comment about the Met, I know it does happen in the county forces.

Good luck with the specials, I applied in December and am still waiting to hear, they said they are still sifting through applications

I’m not going to apply unless the above information is confirmed, will ring on monday…

Special Branch are putting me in contact with a dude who goes through the applications, try and sly mine in to the top;)

I hated working with alot of specials, some were brill, most were shite, they were useless, couldn’t do a moving vehicle check, people PNC check, very basic policing…They stood their and thought they looked cool.

Hi mate, good luck first of all, best job in the world (some of the time!!).

Ok, if you apply, already being a Special then unless things have changed very recently then you will be going through the same process as anyone else - apllication, Day1 & 2 assesments and then Training school (which has changed in the last few years).

As to your previous service, I’m really not sure, if you have done all of the training in the last few years I think it would be madness to make you go through it all again - then again it wouldn’t surprise me.
Give them a call on Tuesday (Bank Holiday on monday and no one will be in). If you have no luck then PM me and I’ll do some digging for you - for the price of a cup of tea of course !!

Let me know how you get on.

Since December !?!?! Thats not very good, when was the last time you spoke to them ?

Cheers fella, forgot about monday, ops!:stuck_out_tongue: Even if I have to do it again, wouldn’t bother me, just hope the police background would put me above other applicants!

Most MET including recruitment dont quite know whats going on. Im currently two weeks from finnishing my trainning. As of the end of this year if you are a civvy street recruit you will be required to do 300 hours as a special, not including trainning… if you dont want to do the specials way in you will have to do a 6 month or a year college course in the law side of the job then do the physical trainning at Hendon. Course will cost around 700 quid. This is the latest I heard from my trainners. But then my course was going to be the last…now theres another two behind me. Also, out of 150 people in my course only one was not employed by the MET in some way before hand. Transferies do two to three weeks orientation before going out on the street, same with people who left. The MET would rather recruit ex coppas or specials or transferees as it costs less.

Thanks dude. SB mentioned this degree course, at first I laughed, but they were being serious.

Anyway, thanks for all the info peeps. Also good luck with career mate and remember, back against the wall…sucker punches suck(I got caught), and no POLACs:D

no POLACS? suppose not…they banned the FB group  been in the MET for three and a half years, finally made it up the next level. Suffered through 4 n a half months of white notes n just finished 5 weeks of street duties. loved every minute of it…now back to two weeks of sunbury/hendon land blah.

What POLACC FB group?

I’d join that, I was in a massive crash, people still talk about it today:D damn funny.

Good luck with everything else.

Hello mate. If you were job before you can do a course at Hendon for Tranferers and Re-joiners, which is about 3 or 4 weeks long I think.

Have a word with the careers office and they should be able to give you some more precise info.

Will give them a tinkle Tuesday. I miss my CS  Anything majorly changed in the last 3 years rules and regs wise?

You’ve probably already seen this.

hey RR hows you?

well i applied in dec, recieved confirmation of my application on 10 feb, 10 march i emailed to see what was happening and was told someone would be in touch very shortly, still nothing…

That is crap mate, give them a call again and ask why it’s taking so long.

well just spoke to them apparently i didnt get accepted??? doesn’t make sense as i got accpeted for met and failed day 1 by 1 mark so thought i’d apply for specials as met haven’t been recruiting for well over a year now but hey onwards and upwards

Unlucky mucker…
