People (men) In suits riding top of the range sports bikes without any clue on how to ride it, nor do they have any form of protective clothing (other than a helmet).
Im sure none of the people im talking about are actually on here…
But if you are… SORT IT OUT! I for one will not waste my time to help you in the event of an off, if you are not bothering to help yourself!
I had a guy on a motorbike hit me as I was crossing the road, he went flying into the air with no lid or any protective gear… Despite the fact he was at fault my first thought was: “OH **** I hope he makes it out of this one” and I immediately went to see if his ok
Wearing protective gear or not is one’s choice, they may be an idiot or not (personally I’ve done it and will do it on certain occasions), but in any situation I would help someone out if I could…
Personally, some of the best advice came from the Bikesafe course I did shortly after passing my DAS. I watch riders fly past me daily only to get stuck in traffic, whilst I plan my way through - safely. You know one day their gonna come a cropper, and I don’t take that thought lightly, they are after all someones son or daughter.
I reckon some of the skills learned on Bikesafe should be incorporated into the DAS course. Better still, a voucher should be included when you pass, that gets you straight on to the course.
I have nothing but thanks and respect for the riders of Essex Police. They taught be how to ride properly, a skill which has got me out of, or more importantly not into strife in the first place.
Would I stop for someone I’d seen riding like a knobber?
I am not sure i would…I guess it depends. If they are riding like a complete tool, then they don’t deserve my compassion, if their riding skills just aren’t that good…well, none of us is perfect.
But I guess this is why I could never work in the medical profession like a friend of mine who is a paramedic, who tells me stories all the time of utter nts that he comes across all the time, but he still shows compassion giving them medical care. Based on some of the stories he has told me, I’d let the fkers rot.
It all about freedom to do whatever you want to live an let live each to their own live your life dont be worrying about how others live theirs unless of course it directly impacts on how you want to live this whole bikin thing on these forums get way to self righteous shouldn’t park like that , should wear this gear that gear go that fast do this do that feck me anyone would have fault we we’re in the army sometimes ride your ride an enjoy it without feeling the need to blow your own trumpet rant over
Each to their own - I personally don’t like seeing people in non protective clothing just because you invisage how injured they’ll be if they do come off even at 30 mph. Doesn’t bother me though it’s their risk not yours just like how they choose to ride. If they’re overly agressive kit or no kit I’d back off and let them go on their way.
I don’t mind weaving in and out of London traffic. I was more worried riding on the bendy mountain roads back in Wales. Blind corners, who knows if a tractor or boy racer is coming the other way. Head on collision with them and you’re a goner.
I always wear every bit of kit I have and although I do think “you idiot” when I see someone not wearing the proper kit themselevs I certainly wouldn’t ride or walk past them if they needed help!!
At the end of the day it is their choice if they want to wear full protective gear or a suit when riding, after all the only legal requirement is a helmet, if they are going to come off then it’s only themselves they are going to cause more injury to, this is a long runnning debate and usually comes about during the summer months so surprised to see it crop up now!
I’m pretty sure you would help someone if they wore a suit and came off!! You can’t honestly say you woudln’t! It’s not like they would have come off their bike because they were wearing a suit!
