At the moment ive got a great big stupid looking number plate, whats the smallest legal size i can have?
Dont worry steve it matches the great big stupid looking rider…
Standard size is 9x6 inch i have 8x5 with a standard font and never been hassled, just make sure you dont have it the same accent you talk in otherwise no fuckker will be able to read it
cheeki fecker, where u been anyway, ive been back nearly two months…
I know steve im still wating for you to shout me up and by me lunch like you said you was going too
Well ive been out, BMM, Ace, Leicester square, where have you been? Polishing ur bike watching the weather forecast?:w00t::w00t::w00t:
I’m planning to get this kind of fender eliminator for my bike…
what are the chances of getting pulled and fined if I stick small reg plate on it?
in London, id say alot…
what if I still managed to fit 8x5 size somewhere under exhaust somehow ?
bikes without reg plates would look a lot better
is it legal to carry reg plate on the back of you jacket ?
great idea, but as said before, you’d risk being pulled off every time out. what i’ve done on my last fazer ( and t’ace, btw) was cutting yellow borders off the plate. so you still had legal size letters, but the plate was substantially smaller. been pulled by cops few times when out with mates and they even pointed my plate as a proper example as opposed to 5x2" on other bikes :w00t:
try, see what you think.
but this:
is what i’m gonna fit to my current bike and i guess a small plate would fit very nicely… what to do, what to do…
7x5 is in my opinion an acceptable size but don’t blame me if you get pulled:w00t:
8x5 and you’ll probably never get tugged - doesnt mean you wont though.
Outside the M25 your more likely to get away with a letterbox style - although Ive already had an on the spot 30 quid grumble
R1cky’s talking in centimeteres. 7cm x 5cm is bigger than he’s got on his bike… I think it’s so the weight of a heavy plate doesn’t slow him down…
9x7 is all you should legally have :ermm:
so heres the 8x6 i had on the DT…
and the 7x5 i had on the hornet…
and no problems with the police inside or outside the M25
Mine is 6x4 cm and I’m planning on smaller, have done 9500 miles like that in and out of London never a problem. The Bikesafe police said they have an understanding not to pull a bike for plates if the details can be read at 40 feet (from memory, is that right ?) so as long as it’s standard font and readable they’ve probably got better things to do.
Having said that they did say that if they see you riding like a knob and they stop you then you can expect a fine for the plate along with exhaust etc . . . so don’t let them see you
There is no legal or illegal size for a number plate. Requirements are - no one-line plates for bikes, the characters on it must be the correct font, the correct size, the correct space apart and have the minimum margin around them, but it doesn’t matter at all what size the plate itself is. Details here…http://www.dvla.gov.uk/vehicles/number_plates_registration_marks.aspx

Careful arguing it though, a lot of police don’t know the rules either!
be carefull if you have number you like or a cherished transfer, cos if the cop does know what hes doing and reports it to dvla as well as giving you a ticket , once youve had a couple of dvla reports they can automatically re register your bike and issue a new reg.
and they keep runing a operation nationwide to catch dodgy VRMs.it a bit of a hot one at the moment , apparently its stops terrorism and speed camera/congestion charge dodgers because the ANPR cant read some of the funky ones!!
‘Its only a crime if you get caught !’
Ive got 7x5 and not had a problem - any smaller then you’ll probably get hassle!
You say that But I’ve been riding since before christmas with NO plate at all and only been stopped the once, and that was more coz i was doing *** on the motorway!!
All fixed now though, plate is here and just waiting to be put on the bike
I’ve got a small plate, carbon letters and a back print to it - never seem to get hassled but I suppose the police have better things to do during rush hour - that said, if I’d been on that bike the other day when i got pulled for 74 in a 50 I’m sure I would have been in more trouble - small victories I s’pose.
It’s all acceptable risk at the end of the day - if you do have a plate that’s not dvla spec you need to be prepared to get pulled.
