Tell ya what, you stop me for no other reason than to give a bit of advice and you’d be told what I think of you … of course, in a very polite way to avoid Sec 5 Public Order Act, but you’d have no doubts about what I think.
It would also follow up with a call to your team Inspector on why a cheeser is using 163 of the Road Traffic Act 88 to dish out his own advice.
And I suppose you sit around the table with the other rats and wonder why everyone keeps asking you if you have nothing better to do !
Not the way to endear yourself to members of the public.
How long have you been a cheeser and how long have you been in the job … I’m thinking minutes by some of the replies you’ve given here !
I’ve got to say, when commuting to work (5 miles each way) , I only wear protection wise lid, gloves and full armour jacket, thats the very least protective gear I wear. On a rideout though I wear that plus full armour trousers and boots.
I find it a chore in the morning getting all the kit on when I know I’ll be taking it off in ten minutes time, I just make myself seen with lights on and heard by filtering in 1st gear so my revs are high, which tends to have people moving off the white line aswell
I dunno, think I was a bit harsh lookig back at it !
I know he means well but the one thing that annoys me about some fellow colleagues is that they assume that every member of the public is stupid and attempt to give them advice … which is not covered by any law … in the style of some condescending parent.
Anyway, was good to meet you last Wednesday Charly, dunno about this week but will try and make an appearance at the next one.
We are all taking a big enough risk riding bikes so at least give yourself a fighting chance when you do come off.
I speak to so many people that say; ‘‘Oh, I am only riding in town doing 30 mph’’. Well I ride and stunt pushbikes and I can tell you that coming off at 20mph can yield pain an scars like you can’t imagine.
Most people just are not aware of the cosequences of crashing without kit until they are feeling stupid nursing wounds that would have been totally preventable if kit was had been on at the time of the crash.
When I crashed at the Ace a few months ago, I had kit on. my knee an elbow pads done there job as i came down hard - so did my bottoms - my ass was saved!! The only injury I had suffered was to my hand and i did have gloves on but they were not bike gloves. If I had not b een wearing kit then I would imagine that I would have at least fractured a knee cap, would have lost lots of skin from my ass and would have cracked my elbow open. I came off at around 60mph.
Looks like I provoked some interesting arguments in this thread.
But my idea of safety is to wear my 2 piece Spyke leathers AGV helmet, boots and bike gloves.
But this is free country we live in and people should be able to make their own coices in life. As for the Police pulling you over to give you their advice I believe that the that should be brought up to speed of how driving on today’s roads are young teenagers, they seem to only wear hoodies and a cheap lid with trainers and no gloves.
Do their parents not realise how much damage they can do to themselves and others. Personally I think not.
