Ok guys we now have about 10 defiinte and a few maybe’s
This message is for all those who are joining us on this ride:
Dear friends, I can’t stress enough the following statement:
The intention of this ride is to have a safe, sensible and fun day out, those who take place will be responsible for their own actions and must have in mind the safety of the other riders and vehicles as well as their own at all times
We don’t expect to have people showing off or riding to impress beyond their abilities.
This is not a race and those who will attempt to ride in a dangerous manner will be kindly asked to continue their ride away from the group and on their own.
Myself and Gixxer-Steve who are organizing and heading this ride will not accept any responsibility for people binning their bikes through their own fault and I declare that this forum is in no way responsible for eventual accidents as it serves only the purpose of displaying the intention of our get together and the organization of the ride. I am of the understanding that all your bikes are insured, taxed and roadworthy otherwise you might as well stay at home and have your easter egg instead.
Our tail gunner is a certified first aider and will carry a first aid kit which is meant only for minor cuts and grazes. Anything bigger will be dealt by professional paramedics and lets hope we won’t need to resort to that.
Look forward to see you all on BoxHill 09:45am sharp - the rides starts at 10:00am, we will wait the customary 15 minutes for late arrivals anything after that is considered a no-show and we are off.
Sorry mate, going to Bournemouth for a couple of days with the miss’s so will have to give it a miss. Have fun thou
Well well, that went beautifully, it was 12 of us but I can only remember few of the names:
Dan (Hyperlink) on R1
Steve (GixxerSteve) on GSXR 750
Udi as in Udi on R6
Martin on Husqvarna 610 sm
Terry (lady) on GSXR 750
Terry (bloke) on Fazer 600
Marcus on XT660X
Moi on XT660X
Jolyon Russ on BWW FC650
?Lady? on Honda
?Bloke? on Triumph
?Bloke? on a red bike ??
After a chat with all the riders to discuss how to go about it with so many different bikes displacement’s (R1’s / 750’s / 600’s) we all agreed people would proceed at their own desired pace (so that those who wished to open it up a little would go ahead and then wait at main junctions for the others who wanted to keep a less speedy pace, which is fair enough), we set off from Boxhill at about 10:20 and we managed to get to Brighton Madeira Drive in 2 groups say one arriving about 10 minutes before the other.
After coffees and refreshments 5 riders went their own way back home and the remaining 7 proceeded to Hastings. With a bit of fog to contend with but great roads without so many cage dirvers we all arived at Hasting to be greeted by a brief appearance of that thing up there called the sun, which got us all hot and bothered for 1 minute, then it was cold again, we had lunch, drinks and we set off back home deciding that it was no point going back to Box Hill but that after the A21 we would all head home our separate ways.
After a few calls and text messages I understand all made it back home safe and sound and all had a great time. I wish to thank all of you for a great day and for being safe and considerate riders throughout the whole day.
We will do this again on a larger scale on May Bank Holiday with the rest of the expected 12’000 odd riders but it wont be the same because the roads are obviously busier and it will be hard to ride at the pace we enjoyed today This is why me and my friends run this ride every year, cause we love those roads but we don’t enjoy it as much when there’s 12’000 of us.
p.s: Jolyon your mobile is knackered, if you read this let us know you got home ok, cheers
Had a wicked day. Bit of a shame about the weather, couldn’t go as mental as I wanted to, but good fun and a good turn out.
I think we’ll have to sort out some kind of system to allow everyone to come, yet ride at their own pace, and pre-arrange set meeting points to concregate again.
Thanks to everyone who turned up, you’re a good bunch!!
Well I have had an idea, I might invest in one of those walkie-talkie kits with up 5 handsets, some of the more hi-tech ones should have a range of 8 km’s which its just under 5 miles, I saw them in Maplins for about 40-45 quid, once it has been decided which group wants to go at what speed then one of these “toys” is handed to a rider of that group and with the help of a printed map of the ride (which would have helped yesterday) should then help us in keeping people on route when the groups split up.
But yes it was a right lark yesterday. loved it on the A259 getting me pegs down
Well i enjoyed my day at work…
Awww bless you Uncle!
If you do nothing else make sure you get the May Bank Holiday off for the Hastings run proper. That’ll be a reet good blast!!
I’m still spitting blood about it raining yesterday, my beautiful clean bike!!!
Thats my worry, all that cleaning to do ( lol ) .monday is also looking dodgey, bloody civil service and their cut backs. the only thing i might be lucky to do on monday is get to box hill in the afternoon.
What a day!
I got home exausted with a giant grin on my face and an all over ache.
The day for me started at about 8, left home in mild drizzle with plenty of time, sadly and to his own admission “To be honest mate, I’m not good with maps”, Fran had actually sent me to the wrong place. I’m not blaming him at all, it’s MY responsibility to get my ass to where it has to be and I probably should have checked boxhill.co.uk before I set off. So I turned up a bit late and having riden through the kind of rain that doesn’t feel wet until you realise you mobil phone is dripping wet.
We set off from Box Hill at a gentle pace, which was to my liking and before I knew it we were at brighton. I’d actually done more mile getting from my place down to Box Hill admittedly about 20 of those were spent doubling back on myself.
So after a quick burger I assumed the next leg was going to be as short and at the same pace, ha!
Brighton to Hastings was a smaller group much more interested in plenty of “spirited progression”, if you’ve done a bike safe course you’ll know what I mean, if you haven’t ask a copper the next time he pulls you The speed never fall below mental for any longer than neccassary, even in the FOG!!!
The route from Brighton to Hastings is a beaut, lot’s of loverly twisties.
By the afternoon me and Martin (Fazer 600) were happy trundling along at the back, when I say trundling that’s in relation to the rest of the guys! We got split up towards the end of the day and headed back to Martin’s place in Dartford. We stopped at a petrol station and we worked out the best was for me to get back to north London.
I took a route back through The City which was bliss, being good friday there was absolutely no traffic and I was able to really open it up in town, something you always want to do but never can because of that bus/car/cyclist/pedestria/etc.
All in all a great day and I’d like to say cheers to everyone, t’was my first ride out and despite being late/wet/slow I felt very welcomed
Jolyon
and you certainly were welcome by all
look forward to see you on the next run
i have to admit it was a great day out, makes a change from me doing something boring. everyone was really nice and pritty much stuck together on the way to brighton where some had to head back.
look forward to the next outing…
“Fran had actually sent me to the wrong place”
Thats why fran uses a sat nav if he goes any further than the end of his road
Sounds like a good day, maybe the next one.
I said to him Box Hill, is there anyother place called like that? if so… oh well my bad… how the heck should I know i am a foreign aren’t I?
and as Mick rightly said that is why I use a sat nav or i’d be lost.
Yes there are actually a few Box Hill’s, there’s the National Trust park, which I drove through on my way to Mickleham which eventually wound me up at you guys.
There’s also Box Hill the village which I also drove though, not to mention the 5 mile stretch of the A3 that I doubled back on because I thought I’d missed the turn.
Did I mention my mobile phone got completely drenched as well?!
Jolyon
Doh… Not the kind of precision military planning one would expect from a Capt eh . Shame you drenched your phone…
For future reference…

I can appreciate that if one has never been there that it could be iffy to find, I thought the map i sent you from Google would have carried you straight there.
