Non owner vehicle insurance

Hi guys.

Is there any way to buy insurance that covers you as an individual to ride or drive certain vehicles (like how it works in Europe) rather than insurance that covers a specific vehicle you intend to make use of and own?

I know there are companies in the US that allow this, but have never seen that here.

Just asking because at some point I’ll be needing to drive or ride a few vehicles owned by mates or other people but necessarily insured by them.

The vehicles will all have current MOT and Tax that have not yet expired so they would not have to be SORNed.

Any ideas?

Some sort of motor trader policy perhaps ?

Probably not going to be that cheap though.

Hmmm…Yeah…Along those lines I guess.

Cheers Pat.

wont you’re fully comp insurance cover you if you’re allowed to drive other vehicles???

The other vehicles have to be insured by their owners

And then you are usually only cover third party (that’s what it states on all my previous car policies).

Did a direct approach to a Lloyds syndicate (knew someone in the game at that time) many years ago for just this sort of cover, but just for cars.

After they’d stopped laughing, they said they’d do it but on a “worst case” premium. So imagine what the cost of an all risks, full comp., with foreign touring policy on a top of range Ferrari (or similar) is and you’ll get an idea of what they were wanting.

A motor traders policy was cheaper, if a bit restricted.

My Bike policy allows me to ride anyone elses bike?

Also saw an advert for a temporary insurance company that can give you insurance for 1-28 days, that might be a solution, sorry the advert was not that good, I can’t remember the company name!!!

+1 i think you just set a agreed limit to the value of vehicle/s you may or may not drive/ride
