I’ve been looking for a reasonably decent flip-front helmet, but ideally something a fair bit cheaper than a multitec. I ride with a radio/intercom/phone quite a lot, so was looking for something I could fit a headset under, but Nolan’s N-Com looks quite handy.
Firstly, is the N103 a good helmet? Anyone had any issues with them? What’s the visor availability like (I seem to attract flying stones)?
Secondly, how does the wired N-Com system work? From what I gather, there’s a 3.5mm jack on the side of the box into which i just plug an audio lead, in which case that’s about perfect. I don’t need anything wireless.
And how well does it work? I’ve seen the way the mic fits on, but what of the speaker(s)? I’m guessing it’s just a speaker on the side of the box itself?
I know Infinity carry Nolan helmets, but does anyone know of anywhere else in London? Ideally close to Southwark/London Bridge and with more available parking than the Infinity in Holborn.
Sorry for the late reply mate. I just hope that you have not bought one of these yet. I bought one last autumn. It was just the very worst helmet I have ever owned!
The problems were:
1 The bluetooth kept dropping the phone
2 The helmet was really noisy, so noisy in fact that when the link was working I couldn’t hear the person on the phone at over 25 MPH
3 The visor had to be either fully open or closed. It couldn’t be held ajar on the rachet. If you tried it snapped shut - according to the shop I bought it from a known problem!
4 The lining and pads that were taken out to fit the electronics never seemed to hold together again
5 I found the sun visor kept hitting my nose when I pulled it down
6 You have to buy a travel adapter to recharge the N-COM as it only has an italian plug on it.
Other than that it was great! Thankfully the dealer (HG) were great and agreed it wasn’t suitable. After only a couple of hundred miles I went back to Arai!
If anyone has good suggestion as to how I can link up my phone and MP3 to a lid I’d love to know!
Jabra 3030 bluetooth headphones with skull candy in-ear noise cancelling ear phones are the mutts nutts. I have a noise Nolan N82 helmet but at all legal speeds (and motorway speed) the sound even on quiet tracks is clear.
Works well with my phone as it counts as mp3 and satnav. only thing is the microphone is on the medallion bit so calling is difficult at anything over 30. But then I’ve stopped taking calls on the bike as it’s just daft trying to fiddle with buttons and take a call while moving. I’m sure many others would carry on happily though.
No, not got it yet, waiting for this whole redundancy thing to clear up at work.
Pretty lucky, by the sounds of things, though. I’ve heard several bad things about the n-com system so I’d already discounted that. And if the visor has a habit of not working, that’s pretty ****, too.
Looks like I’m back to looking around again. Cheers!
