I was on my way back from the boxing gym and attemted a slow u-turn and dropped the bike on its side!!! im so pis**d off!!!
The fairing has been scratched…(cosmetic) but the main thing is (i dont know how to explain this) the pivot for the rear brake pedal has snapped off! so now basically my rear brake is just hanging and cant be used!
i need advice as to how much it will cost to fix?
How much will the parts cost?
How difficult is it to fit?
The bike is a 2008 zx6r.
I will post some pics in the daylight.
Thanks people…i need all the help i can get as i cant even think straight.,… all i want is to ride the bike again!
Gutted for you mate, I dropped mine last year at zero speed and did a similar thing, new brake assembly should cost you no more than 30 quid from Ebay or similar. Takes about 15 mins to fit and adjust. Got the same bike so I know!It won’t look as bad when you look at it tomorrow, and you’ll get it fixed in a jiffie. Good luck. C
Hi CraigDanger, thanks for the help mate! i just did a quick search and couldnt find any on ebay. Do you know of any dealers in west london that will be able to supply and would they cost the same amount?thanks mate!!
Dropped my ZX6 twice now…once she landed against a car and only sustained a few scratches on the edge of the double bubble screen, other time was at a camp site in Devon but she landed on grass and was kitted with soft panniers!
Try the breakers yards m8. A1 in Wokingham are the scrappies that we use at the pound, don’t know if they have any ninjas but worth calling them.
There’s a website you can use where you list an item and all the scrap yards registered on it can see the request and contact you. http://www.bike-breakers.co.uk/
Obviously keep trying Ebay as I just bought a front master cylinder from there and the person was breaking a ZX6.
It’s a new bike for stuff from ebay, but you might be lucky. Not sure about Kawasaki dealerships, I know metropolis, but have heard a lot of bad things about them so cannot recommend them.
Post a photo and we can assess the damage, and it depends what parts you can get from kawasaki (will probably be more than 30 quid though) and whether they are going to try and sting you for a whole rearset (which will be expensive!)… Phone around some dealers and breakers, you might get lucky…
I’d just order one from Cornwall Kawasaki if I were you. It might be a bit pricier than E-bay, but you’ll get it quickly. They’re dead helpful over the phone and have a good parts-viewer online, but I can’t see your year model (2008) on there.
Nearly dropped my bike at the weekend on a slope… luckily for me there were afew strong men around to hold it up, but I still felt a bit silly I had my r&g bungs fitted though (andyp69 would be proud!) so I felt more confident about not damaging the bike too much. These things happen (all the time), I just dont think people mention them!
Just also checked ebay too mate, but yeah can’t find anything either, checked my ebay histore and got mine from a place called blacksbikeshop. maybe give them a go but I don’t have a contact for them. Sorry.
On a plus side though, the weather is going to be **** for the next few days so you won’t miss any riding days! C
you should repair the rear brake, but remember, you dont really need it, front is more than enough.
I know you were talking about getting crash bungs, i think now its time to make them high priority mate, it’ll save scraches on your fairing if you ever drop it again
Not sure I totally agree with you on that statement. Using rear brakes is pretty essential to good bike control, especially on the road. The more you use the rear, the better you get at it. This makes a HUGE difference when riding in the wet, or sometimes making a little dab mid corner to stabilise the bike. I use my rear brake ALL the time … keeps me well “tuned in” with it.
I was out with a mate a few weeks back and we stopped off for a bevvy and were chatting as we got off the bikes… He forgot to put his side stand down and so just got off and let his bike drop!! Was very funny looking back on it - but can imagine how gutted he was!!!
Nealry dropped mine in Earls Court the other day, Literally had the thing on its side, managed to cling on for dear life and a helpful chap in the cafe straightened it up with me. I felt Physically sick, would have made an awful mess.
Currently no Bungs and reading this is suggesting a shopping trip is in order !
Yikes, dropped it during a u-turn? Did you touch the front brake by any chance?
Next time ride the rear brake, just slip it a little to control the speed, straightens the bike a ton, and rev against it with a slipping clutch. Takes practise, but I can turn my 'Bird on a dime that way Full lock with a 280kg bike covered with 3 acres of plastic? Possible, yessir, takes some getting used to though.
And +1 to the rear brake being essential, I don’t think I could live without it to be honest!
For all that smart talk, of course I’ve dropped my bike before… must have dropped the NTV at least 2 or three times… the best time was when I sort of caught it. “Maaa, there’s a courier outside the school with a motorbike on top of him laughing his head off!!”
So my advice is: Have a sense of humor about it, and work on those skills son!
