ninja 250r help(2009)

Hi guys,

I was wondering if anyoe could help me with my question.as stated above i have a 250 ninja which is my first bike since passing my test.

As it is a sports bike it revs quite high which is new to me and i keep looking for another gear,is it possible to put a gear indicator on this bike to visually display which gear I am in.I know im opening myself up for some abuse about counting and stuff but feel it would make my life a lot easier.

sensible answers invited,abuse expected.

Thanks Dean

It won’t make your life easier… You will just become lazy…

I also inquired about fitting one on my first bike and once I ordered it and thought about it the idea soon wore off!
Eventually you’ll get used to riding and riding your bike, counting the gears will be an instinct with in no time… Just get used to listening to the rpm it’ll make you a better rider in the long run…

I’m sure a few others can shed some more light on it, but IMO its not worth the faff…

I love mine on my gsr but also got used pretty quickly not having one on the KTM…

You’ll get the hang of it pretty quickly I would guess the more you get to know what the engine sounds like at what revs

Now that I’ve had a bike with a gear indicator I think its something I’d like on all my bikes. I can ride without one but its just nice to have.

Theres plenty of aftermarket ones you can get for your ninja. http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_sacat=0&_nkw=kawasaki%20ninja%20250r%20gear%20indicator&_sop=15

I’ve got one for the 600RR. It’s the coolest thing ever and looks really trick. I rode for 2 years on the CB500 without one and that was fine. I find it useful on the RR for when you are entering a slow corner and want to be sure how many clicks it is to 1st. Also if you want a burst of acceleration on the motorway or an A road it’s convenient to know what gear you are in so you know how many you want to drop. For example if you are doing 70 and you want to pass or get away from something you know that you can still drop to 2nd but 1st is a bad idea. So if you look down and see you are in 5th you can confidently hammer down 3 ratios and open it up. I’ve found it pretty useful since it’s been there.

I’ve had a gear indicator on mine since I got it.

Very handy.

Took me a while to get used to the higher revs on a bike when i started out, but thats it bikes rev higher.

Dont try and drive it like a car, it needs ze revs!

thanks guys.looked at the link that daniel gt put up and i may just treat myself when payday finally arrives, god january seems to go on forever.

Hi

Not worth it, just ride ride ride, you are still getting used to a new bike.
Give it time. Don’t forget you have only just passed.

I find i only need a gear indicator to know which gear i am about to wheelie in (to get the revs right)…:ermm::Whistling::cool: although i always try for 7th hoping one has magically appeared and i can go supersonic!!

it is useful but you will get used to knowing/counting the gears soon enough and find you won’t even check after a while if you have one installed!

Gear indicated what ever next
I once had a automatic car but I still had to drive it

Go ahead an get one mate but be careful - time spent looking at your gear indicator is also time spent not looking at the road in front of you…

As with every optional extra, you’ll get people saying they’re **** and others saying they rock.

At the end of the day it’s your bike and its you riding it. If you want one, get one.
