Newbie tips?

Hi there, I’m from Essex, I’m 17 and currently ride a RS125… yes, on learner plates :s

Hoping to start racing this season in the new thundersport 500 class, and have got my first trackday coming up in 10 days… any advice?? It’s at mallory, and I’ll be riding both RS, and my dad’s CB500. Already tested it out briefly- I think I’m pretty okay on it. Just need to convert my gear shifting style slightly, and remember not to shut the throttle without expecting the engine braking LOL

Well, I was just hoping to give racing a go; I don’t expect to be any where near the front, but I’m not going to give up until I’ve had a go :stuck_out_tongue:

Well, hi, and any help/advice/tips would be much appreciated.

hello and welcome, best go to the racing threads there will be lots of advice good and bad on there.

Hi and welcome aboard.

Hi! Welcome to LB

welcome m8:)by any chance are you the fella on a blue rs125. me and my moto buds met near collier row roundabout?

uh, don’t think so, sorry - i’m a girl, if that helps?

my aprilia’s got telephonica movistar paintwork, too…

i live sort of near cambridge

yummy biker chick:hehe: my wife has a mito 125  for 125s them bikes can shift well

you go girl!! welcome to lb

thanks :DI’m still unsure about the track day though…

Not scared of falling off - just scared of making a twat of myself, like messing up the hairpin, or doing some stupid novice thing and coming off. I can imagine the thoughts of people behind me… “i’ve paid all this money, and i can’t even enjoy my day because this girl is weaving all over the place” :crying:

I still can’t wait though… :D:D:D

do it, dont worry about things like that cos anyone can come off on the day. they’d have to be a prop’a nob to moan about losing a bit of track time

when i did cadwell i back flipped over the mountain on the 1st session :w00t: just did one of them jump in the air “i’m ok dance” moves then fall back down:hehe:

everyone was cool and just asked to see i was ok.

Hi And welcome to lb dont worry about any one else just go at your own speed and one which you will feel happy with every one makes mistakes i feel the same way even after 8 trackdays i came off at silverstone last year felt so embarressed but luckily managed to get the bike out of the way ok and just sat there watching every one else go past, didnt take any spares with me so that was the end of my day i broke the gear lever off!!

just go there and enjoy your self at your own pace your love it!

I would suggest you do a few trackdays before shelling out to race. Best to get a look at the circuits in a less competetive environment.

Welcome btw

+1

Thanks, yeah - this was the plan with doing a track day; in case I really didn’t get on with circuits, so I hadn’t bankrupted myself before I’d even had a try!

I’ve been wanting to race for a fair while now… I know for sure that if I don’t have a stab at it (i.e. start at a track day), then I’ll regret it.

Ta for all the advice, and everything

Anybody got any special tips for riding round mallory specifically??

tbh - stay on?

Take your time, and get the feel of it. If you enjoy it - find a mentor.

Mallory is great fun! Take it easy at the bus stop and hammer it around Gerrards

go for it girl! i do alot of track days and ive never looked back

Crashing or missing a corner is all part of learning, if you want to join a few of us lady riders then im sure we could arrange a track day together

sounds like a plan to me! :stuck_out_tongue:

Ta for all the encouragement - I’m definitely going on it now… so I’m praying for a bit of nice weather

Good luck and welcome
