Newbie - SE London

Hi all. New to this site and looking for some help please. I’ve been riding a Marauder 125 (on my CBT) for the last year and have been really enjoying it. However, I’m getting tired of the underpowered Marauder - but it’s been a perfect ride for the first road bike. I’m arranging to take the BAS and looking to upgrade to my first mid size bike. Which bike is the difficuly bit. I’ve riden lots of dirt bikes over the years but have only been riding on the road for the last year.

I am not a boy racer (but I understand there are lots of people who love the speed). I want a bullet proof ride that I can use to commute most of the time and on occasion, take on longer rides (perhaps a jaunt to France). I prefer the more upright seated position and when required want to be able to get away from the traffic or trouble, whichever comes first.

All recommendations gratefully received. Any opinions on the BMW F650, Kawasaki ZZR 600, Honda CBF 500/600? Worried maybe the ZZR would be over powered for my experience??? other bikes?

many thanks

Craig.

Take the BAS? Billy the BAS?

Honda CBF600 will do very nicely, reliable, solid and goes well. Some come with ABS too, which is an added aid for a new “big” bike rider.

Thanks bud. Of course I meant DAS. BAS is a small business tax obligation in Australia. Good grief - you can take the boy out of Australia…

Hi Craig, And Welcome To LB Go For The Honda 500 That I Think Would Be The Best Bet For You

Welcome to LB Craig

I faced the same problem after my DAS and came up with 3 models. Yamaha Diversion F ABS, Honda CBR600F and the Kawasaki ER6F

The Honda was more expensive on insurance as it’s more powerful, so the choice was down to 2 the Diversion or ER6F. No real difference in power, just whether you want 2 or 4 cylinders; I choice 4.

hello and welcome. get a 600cc bike. can’t go wrong:)

Can’t go wrong with Honda in my opinion. I got the CBRf600 and refuse stubbonly to change  The more upright less sporty CBF500’s are cool to. Honda are bullet proof and you can get gazzillions of miles out of the enging (mild exageration perhaps) which means you can pick up an old one quite cheap confident that it shouldnt let you down. ALthough I am a girl so what would I know

Yeah Honda one way…

Honda’s just feel smooth…Nice gearboxes…

I had a GSXR…Nice bike but mine felt well clunky in the gearbox…

Many thanks people for the advice and welcomes.

I’m leaning to the Honda - the courier special  but maybe buying new might be the safest bet as I wouldn’t know if there are any issues with a bike if I bought second hand?

Welcome to LB:)
