Newbie police alert :-)

I have recently noticed on this forum a few people having a pop at new folks, cos they haven’t gone to the Newbie section first:unsure: Eh? It seems to really get some chaps worked up:D

I’ve been on a few bike forums in the past and not gone to the Newbie section. In fact I don’t think I went to the Newbie section here first either. And on the Boxhill forum I went on a ride out with them and then straight into Rides and Events and then the dodgy photo section. No Newbie hello there straight off either LOL

I think that if people come on the forum they should be made to feel welcome, whichever section they post in. They should feel happy and welocme to chat and enjoy meeting bikers without some kind of wierd etiquette that says ‘if you don’t go to the Newbie section first you have committed a mortal sin and shall be harangued until you repent and go there immediately’;)

Rant over - just seen a couple of new people recently get into trouble with the Newbie police and it annoys me, as I don’t believe in negativity just forthe sake of it and think people should be made welcome.

Love and peace

Maybe see some of you at Box later

Hels xx

i agree, but this seems to be how they do things on lb…

(cant go upsetting the regulars and furniture can we?)

:w00t:

well said hels, my life is to boring to waste bandwith telling people about  I have never posted a newbie post ever anywhere, i may have to go and re-evaluate my priorities

Agreed Hels. Lets be nice out there;)

It also seems that those members who duth protest muchly don’t seem to say hello on newbie threads anyway;)

Some might say that’s dual standards:P

Its a fair point.

Can I add though as a security conscious person, that maybe the “newbie police” just want to have a reassurance of protecting their thousands of pounds of investment by having an incling of who is on, talking to them, and maybe then choosing to go out on a ride out with them.

Making sure its not a thief scouting out their bikes etc. I know people could then become a newbie and fabricate their lifestyle still-but to some people just a few lines about urself may make the forum a relaxed happier, safer feeling environment for those concerned.

This is an unbiased opinion, and i personally dont care whether anyone states who they are in newbie section or not. just trying to look objectonately at the matter from the other side of the fence

I don’t think it’s necessary for newcomers to make their first post in the Newbie section - but it does help if they do make an entry there at some stage.

On an online forum there are no visual cues as to how to address someone unlike in real life and it can save some embarrassments if a newbie says a few things about themselves.

Stevoooo you’re a regular / part of the furniture and people upset you all the time :)!!!

Wouldn’t be a normal day without one of your sly digs though I must admit…

Don’t ever change mate!

You can’t say it better than that! Nice one!

just trying to look at the pretty sheep n slarty on the other side of the fence

col will you behave mate :stuck_out_tongue:

Talking about me, are you?
You will notice that I just comment on first post when it is either a very one sided (even when I actually agree with it) one or a “for sale” advert…
Although I do not think that it should be required to post in the newbies section (never did and actually never read it). I am not sure that trying to sale a bike or anything else for that matter, or commenting negatively on all section of biking (HD, Scooters or any other) is the best way to introduce yourself…
Just my opinion and as an arrogant French g1t, I share it with me, myself and I.
And that is good enough for me…

Well said Hels!

However…

When we introduced ourselves as Newbies (3 months after joining the forum) no-one even said hello! This is probably because everyone dislikes us? We`re good people with real feelings like everyone else. We have still not fully recovered despite counselling.

We love and respect you all and really enjoyed the FBOS course today!

No D675 - not singling you out or nuffink (are you a copper though in real life mate LOL:D - joking) I just happened to notice it had come up a few times recently, not just with you, but with others too, and I thought it would be nice to put forward the point of view that anyone can join in and post what they like whether it is their first post or their two thousandth

Laters - love and peace - from an old hippie:P;)

xx

Sorry the counselling hasn’t worked mate - watching re runs of Woodstock and having a few funny fags sometimes does the trick:DRight am off now :hehe::stuck_out_tongue:

Herbal tea is our only solace. Thanks for the advice!

I think this is one of the few Forums I have added a post in newbies…but generally I forget.

I also rarely go back into the Newbie sections…not through ignorance, but more forgetfulness and just pure laziness when I do remember!

I can’t see the point in giving some grief cos they haven’t posted in there, but likewise I can see its always a good idea to try and post if you are new so that everyone gets to know you…except me cos I never go in there! :w00t:

I agree with Hels. Not every body knows to post on newbie and if they don’t we should point them in the right direction not rip into them because thats enough to put people off. This is not the first time its happened hopefully it won’t happen again. I had two of my friends join LB recently and i had to tell them to introduce themself first. 1 of them posted their newbie post onto someone else post, so i had to tell him to how to do it.

Who the f*** wants to read ‘hi, Im new. I just joined’.

‘hi’

‘welcome’

etc. Load of ********.

Its nice for peeps to say welcome on board and others know that you are new. All am saying it wouldn’t hurt to help out a little if someone doesn’t know what to do

I see your myspace is living up to your post;)
