For an upcoming trackday I wanted to change the tyres on my bike, but the bike is new and the tyres just as new, so I thought it’d be great to be able to take them home after and save them for a rainy day! I had no idea if it would be possible, so took along some bungie-ropes and a tea-towel, hehe.
The guys at FWR looked at me pretty oddly when I said I wanted to take the tyres home on the bike, but seven bungie-straps later, it was all secured and I could JUST about fit on the seat. The tyres acted like a bum-stop and gave me an idea for a race-stop now, as it helped quite a lot on the ride home
I’ve gone from the BT014’s which were stock fitment, to the more track capable, but still equally road compliant, Pirelli Diablo Corsas. In a recent MCN test, these had the second best overall track lap time, even when compared with the likes of Pirelli Super Corsa Pros and Metzeler Racetecs. An easy choice to make really. I would normally run Pirelli Super Corsas for the track, but I’ve always been left wanting a bit better road performance (i.e. something that works in the wet), so if there’s really very little difference between the DC’s and the SCP’s, then that’s me sold, it’s not like I can ride fast enough on track to tell the difference anyhow, it’s just that the the BT014’s left me unsure how far I could lean and how fast I could turn-in.
Here’s a couple of pictures, I’m sure you don’t see a superbike with tyres strapped to the back very often!
