New tyres needed

My rear tyre is coming to the end of its life (5000 miles) and the front is a bit square too, currently running the Bridgestone BT015’s that came new with the bike. Can’t complain about them, they have done everyting I’ve needed and never had a problem, in the wet or trackdays, I just haven’t pushed them anywhere near their limits probably but I will be pushng a lot harder on track next year.

What would be a good tyre for general purpose use on the road, still retaining good wet and dry grip and also good for trackdays on a 600cc bike ? I don’t have the torque of a litre bike and don’t really want a track day style tyre that might sacrifice wet grip or longevity for ultimate grip, probably grip I’ll not use in reality.

Elad mentioned his were quite good, Michelin Pilot Sports, not the 2CT’s, anything else I should consider ? Having trouble finding a reason not to use the BT015’s again to be honest as I know them and have a bit of confidence in them now.

Me too! Was gonna stick another BT014 which come as standard on the rear again but is there anything better?

Done 7k miles since July and the tyres is almost bald and pretty much square from going up and down the A2 everyday - been quoted £135 fitted, ride in ride out - sound about right?

Mine are the Road Pilot 2’s, not the sports, but I find them outstanding, done over 8K miles on mine and 3 trackdays, and still have a lot of life in them.

Excellent grip at BH in the dry, and even better in the wet, however they are sports touring tyres at the end of the day and I reckon you probably want to go for a more sticker option Yslart, need to take advice from the others on those tho…

Might suggest the Road Pilot 2’s for you, the hard compound really works for the commuting…what bike do you have again?Check your prices against FWR in oval, they are the cheapest I have found and have very good service.

well if it aint broke dont fix it;) but i got the pilot 2ct on the rear and the pilot on the front having lots of fun with em, even in wet :w00t:

Cool cheers - they sound a bit better suited for what I use them for.

Bikes a K4 600 GSXR

Yeah might be a bit touring focused for a bike like that…but if you are doing a lot of commuting you are going get some good mileage out of them.

I’m on my 2nd set of 2ct’s on my R6 and love them. I have pushed them on the track in the wet and dry and around a few roundabouts :whistling: - I’ve not even had a little scare with them! I can’t recommend them highly enough.

Seconded…Great tyres my rear lasted 6000 miles.

What 2cts are you all talking about the powers or roads. I’ve been using the pilot road 2 (2ct) for a while now. On about my 3rd set and for a so called road tyre the grip is eceptional. I can’t stress enough how impressed I am with these tyres. The first time I fitted a set of these I originaly asked for the powers 2ct but the tyre shop advised me that my bike would make mince meat of them and suggested I try the road 2s (2ct) because i need a tyre that would give me the grip and better millage. I’ve never looked back since. The bloke who fits my tyres was on the testing weekend with michelin for these tyres and he said he couldn’t believe how good they were. I ride very hard most of the time and there’ve never let go. I done a trackday a couple of weeks ago and was worried how they would perform on track, so I contacted michelin just to check and they said they will be fine. They were great on track, obviously the power 2ct would be better on track but these are more than adequate. The outer edges are just as grippy as the standard powers (not 2ct) what are also a good tyre. Another good thing is after the track day the tyres are still in a good shape and all the rubber hasn’t been pushed all over the place( if you no what I mean). They really show how good they are in the wet, I’ve got so much more confidence in the bike now in the wet, it feels so different to other tyres I’ve used and I can lean it a lot more, but whatever you choose the power 2ct or the road 2ct there both very good tyres, the powers 2ct are more grippy and very sticky on the edges but the roads2ct will give more millage and better grip in the wet and more than good enough for the track. My tyre bloke did also say that no matter what tyre I put on my bike it will go through them quite quick. He said if you put the same tyre on my bike (Tuono 1000) as on a gsxr 1000 mine will go through them about 1500 miles quicker. Something to do with how it puts the torque down. Don’t understand myself:)

This who i use,

Anyway thats my 2pence worth:) hope this helps:)

I like the sound of these 2CT’s hummm

Thanks Faceslider, how many miles do yo get from a set or from a rear ? I guess my little 600cc bike could use the stickier tyres without too much problem ?

It’s not so much the amount of torque it’s the way the power is transmitted to the tyre.

A GSXRthou (an In line 4) has a smoother transmission due to there being 4 power pulses going to the tyre per engine cycle where our Vee Twins have two pulses but they are twice as strong. This tends to tear the tyre more than the smoother IL4’s

A good example was when Honda raced 500 GP bikes some riders preferred the crank configured to give 4 pulses from the V4 where others preferred the “Big Bang” configuration which gave 2 bigger pulses and seemed to dig deeper on the exit of a bend and give more grip.

I hope that makes sense:)

Your probably right mate, on a 600 the power 2cts would probably be my choice as well. Tbh i couldn’t tell you the millage I get, i never pay attention to that. i just know I’m not going in the shop so much:D I just change mine as soon as they start to square. I’ve done 26k in a year so I need I tyre that puts a bit less stress on the wallet and a tyre that offers really good grip in the wet and dry because I ride all through the year no matter what the weather. that was allways my problem when i used to use the powers, they would loose there shape so quick. If I was you I’d put as set of powers 2ct on and see what millage you get, if when you need to change them again your not happy with how long they lasted, try a set of roads 2ct:)

Thanks chunkymonkkey:) I get it now. You clever bugger:P;)

I’m on Pilot Powers 2ct’s. Come on Slarty - I promise you’ll love 'em

im getting 2cts fitted to my gsxr 750 on sat at rpotyre in enfield. Will let you know how i get on.

It’s good to see the recall didn’t dent people’s confidence in 2CT’s:)

I did 2 trackdays on that tyre that was re-called and know lots of people were at the end of the trye life before the recall happened. Free tyres were bit of a result really!!

Touch!;)It’s good to see a firm hold their hand up and act properly in such a situation rather than deny there is a problem and hope for the best:angry:
