New to the bike scene....advice regarding race can on 125

Hi guys, recently brought a Honda CBR125r as I am a newbie on the bike scene. Was thinking about getting a Micron can for it. Has anyone on here brought one for this bike before or can you recommend whether it’s actually worth doing or not. I heard that it will release around 4hp, help it rev a little better and sound tons better?

Your opinions please?

Thanks - Sunny.

In theory it should let the engine breathe better and give slightly more performance. Micron’s are not the greatest though. And I am not sure thats its really worth spending the money on the 125 unless you are going to keep it for some time.

very true, its a cg in wolfs clothing.

i’d wait for the next bike, also easyer to sell without a can

If you’re a newbie & haven’t passed your test it means technically you’ll be riding without a valid licence if it puts it over the 12bhp (or is it now 15 ?) limit, be unlucky to get done for it though.

Also, if you don’t inform the ins co that you’ve fitted a race can, then again it means your insurance is probably invalid - normally you’ll get away with it, but I do know of people whose ins companies have rejected claims 'cos they’ve not been informed that a race can has been fitted.

Hi guys, thanks for the advice.

Pat - Your absolutely correct on the insurance front. I called up my insurance company and they confirmed that so long as the can is road legal it will not affect my insurance premium however I do need to make them aware of it.

Hey Sunny, welcome to LB! I’ve heard a couple of very nice CBR125’s with aftermarket-cans on. I don’t know who they were made by, but they make a big difference to how the bike sounds.

Road legal ? Sorry, but there’s no way that just putting a road legal can on a 125 4-stroke is going to give anywhere near 4 BHP extra - that’s a 30% increase !

Cheers guys.

Pat - quote what it says in this months ‘SuperBike Magazine’ in the Honda CBR-125 review "A Micron end can will add around 4bhp to peak power and allow the engine to rev more freely.

hey there and welcome…

poke poke with our newbie stick…

You can get them for the cbr125s they cost about £168. Its really up to you, with mine because i have the 600 as well decided to keep it standard.

Aj…

With the 125 anyway, i believe its restricted anyway for CBT use (12BHP) so what u can do is get the restrictor removed(anything up 2 33bhp could be outputted when its removed) and an end can (an extra couple).

Ive heard Arrow are quite good on the 125 market…i use 2 have an NSR an if the restrictor is removed apparently made 33bhp!

Something 2 think about…

Also a micron can is prob not legal unless it has baffels which will then reduce power anyway!

Welcome 2 LB

here u go…

125s@ 33bhp pah, with or without a restrictor?

i’m pretty sure an nsr couldnt make that much without some serious tuning, as for the cbr… it’s a bloody cg!!!

OUCH! OUCH! OUCH! That newbie stick hurts Aj. Thanks for the welcome.

I am just thinking whether it’s possible to remove something out of the stock can, perhaps this would free up so power and sound a little better? Anyone know whether this is possible?

Aj - those systems are stamped ‘not for road use’ so it’s a no no however good price system aint it!

Also I think Cafefighter is right, the only 125’s that can get upto 33hp with the restrictors taken out are the 2 stroke Aprilia’s.

just one thing… and believe me since i have ridden both - the cbr and the cg are in no way alike… i still have my cbr because it is such a spunky little bike…

the not for road use is for the racing ones only… btw…

on the aprilia = not sure if you are going to be doing your test on the 125 or have a learners… but at some test centres riders were turned away as it is generally thought that they are not learner legal… so when you do go for your test take the specs with to prove otherwise…

I happen to have a Brand New Red / Black Carbon Fib Micron !!

Boxed and ready to go !!!

Aj - I will more than likely do my full test on a 500cc as I can’t be asked to stick around for 2 years however saying that I will keep the CBR-125 for atleast a year longer to build up more road awareness and improve my riding skills (it’s only been a few weeks since doing the CBT ).

Barro - Got your PM…thanks! not too fond of the carbon fibre mate + it’s not road legal and isn’t a direct fit for a Honda CBR-125 is it?

Cheers - Sunny.

ok ok i’ll admit its lighter & higher spec… but it do have a cg heart, dont it?

one went past me the other day, and i could hardly hear it

i used to have a prilla af1 with a 180 bore, arrow full system, hi-flo filter and performance reeds, probably only made 30bhp

it was great for worrying 400 riders, and pretty ilegal but so much fun for a first bike

i did none of the perfomance stuff myself, it was like it when i got it

just for the record thats 8 cbr125s on here now…

so what colours your btw??? I believe we have 6 reds and one repsol…

i think a 125 rideout is a defo must…

Aj - add another 2 repsol’s to the list. Although my mate has not registered on here yet (but all in good time).

Here are a few pictures of our bikes.

Do you have MSN?

Oh and had to get the proper jacket for the bike aswell.

i dont think so…

and yes they are quiet but if my little one can hit 80 - 85 mph, a cg will never hit that…

and yes I will admit the aprilias are coool… have you seen the 07??
