Hi and welcome

Welcome shakey. Rideouts are good to build up your skills and confidence as well as the social aspect. If you want to know how your bike works get down to the OMC to do one of their maintenance courses.

Welcome Shakey, check out the ‘ride outs section’ and the user TimR

Tim organises ride outs tailored towards ‘new to big bikes riders’, should be right up your street and he has a goodly following of ladies too

Welcome to LB

+1 I can guarantee Tim’s rideouts are a LOT less intimidating than you imagine.

Hi and Welcome. I think you should just turn up to some rideouts, you don’t have to do all day if you get tired you can always peel off and go home on the motorway. Rideouts are more fun than all other aspects of biking put together (except maybe track days).

Hi

The best advice I was given when about to go for my test, was ride ride and ride more. Wet dry windy ect ect.
I learnt so much in that time about myself and the bike. It was the best advice I was ever given.

Done the same with the new bike too, everyone thought I was mad. I had a car sitting on driveway! When I used to get home they called me a dirty courier. Sorry don’t mean to upset anyone.
You learn how to handle the bike and you become at ease. Not get the shaking legs and hands ever time you go out ,through fear of the unknown.

To be honest I’m sick of the sight of my waterproofs!

But I’ve gained a lot of experience, I sure some of you guys on here may agree too or not as the case may be.

Welcome to LB Shakey

I know SE is a distance from the Ace cafe (especially on a winters night) but, it’s newbie night on Monday!
Failing that, try to get to the Borough Market meet on Wednesdays
Or, just come on a ride out, whatever works

There few of us from E as well so if you worried about way back from Ace there will be always someone who can ride with you, if not whole way back at least half of it.

Just to let you know, I am a newbie and am planning to go to Ace Cafe on Monday to meet the rest of the LB guys, so you wont be the only one who will be new.

Everyone on the forum has been very friendly and from what I hear the newbie monthly event in Ace Cafe is supposed to be v good

Ditto. Also East based and should be heading to Ace on Monday. Setting off from work in Bermondsey. Though I usually do North Circular back, then going East on A12 or A13.

Exactly the same route

Hi shakey, welcome to LB.

I’m in Se15 and would be happy to meet up at weekends for a short bimble about.

I don’t get on the rideouts enough, as I usually can’t manage a full day off.

I commute on the bike 4 days out of 5. Riding in the rain means you just have to clean it more

PM if interested.

Should really think about getting a sat-nav and orgnaising a 11-4pm ride-out…

Hi Shakey,

I’m SW16 (just south of Streatham)

I’ve been riding a while, but quite like going out for an hour or two at the weekend just to wander the roads discovering stuff.

I’m a girl, too, think you said you’d like to meet up with other women who ride?

I commute 5 days a week on the bike, so she’s not as pretty as she should be, but if there’s nice weather on a weekend I’d be more than happy to meet up for a bit of a bimble.
