new to 2 wheels

Hi there, passed my CBT last week (on a scooter), no mean feat for a 34 yr old mother of three! Now I am going to buy a 125cc scooter for commuting to work. 20 miles each way, via the Blackwall tunnel. Any advice on a good make of scooter? I need reliability most. I was looking at the Suzuki Bergman 125, what do people think?

Hello and welcome

Well done for passing your CBT.

Can’t say much about scooters but I’m sure some of the others will be along soon.

Enjoy:cool:

Hi I am also a newbie and female I had a scooter before going onto a manual I had a Honda PS 125 with top box plenty of storage under seat and with a top box i could nip into supermarket on way home and fit a fair amount of shopping into it. On a less female note !! found it very reliable and not as bulky as some of the scooters i tried. have a look at mcn website and read and compare the reviews.

Doh:doze: meant twist and go magazine or just google for scooter reviews.

No idea about scoooters so sorry ! BUT Hi and welcome!!!:D:D:D

hi and welcome, burgman are ok,it rot in seconds plus its quite heavy for a 125,look at a honda fes well made and light.

welcome to lb

Hello and welcome

Honda scooters including PS and Dylan have very good reputations.

Begs the question… Why do the majority of scooterists on LB seem to ride Piaggio?

welcome to the site

thanks for all the replies, 1st stop Hein Gerick at the weekend to get some warm, protective gear!

Hi and Welcome!

I bought a Burgman 125 a couple of years back after passing my CBT and used it for commuting. Great scooter with loads of underseat storage, never needed a top box.

Mine was a 2005 model, and apparently the older carb models tend to play up a bit in the winter, mine cut out a few times whilst coming off the throttle which was a bit worrying, so if you can go for the newer fuel injected model as they are a lot better.

Good luck and enjoy!

Hein Gericke at Gants Hill very helpful, get yourself some inner gloves too

Welcome!

Because they’re more stylish, and often cheaper. As Giuliano says, the Hondas have a good rep for build quality, reliability, etc. They also seem to hold their resale quite well. On the other hand, they’re generally more expensive in the first place, and can be expensive to service. It’s also quite hard to get a test ride on a decent range of Honda/Suzuki scoots, because they generally tend to be sold by Honda/Suzi main dealers, most of whom have very little interest in scoots, don’t want to get one in as part of their demo fleet, don’t want to let you test ride anything, etc. Same goes for Yamahas (can’t remember whether they do an X-max 125, but they’re supposed to be nice scoots in their 250 version). On the other hand, you might find a friendly, scooter-focused, Honda/Suzuki/Yamaha dealer who’ll do you a good deal, and then you’re laughing. If I was going to get a 125, I’d get a 2nd hand steel-bodied Vespa. A GT125. Classic body shape, very hard to bend if you drop it (those steel panels are strong), should be plenty around second hand as the first ones will have come out of warranty a couple of years ago, and they always turn heads.

welcome to lb , have fun
