So, i’m looking for a new bike, have been doing the rounds dealer wise.
Coming off a Street Triple R, VFR400, have had Ducatis (749, monster 1100), and a month on an MV f4 - I have started doing track days quite a bit more and want something that I can use in central London, for the odd blast down the motorway, a bit of lane scratching, and of course take on the track. Really prefer riding sportsbikes over nakeds…
I’ve been riding for 2 and a half years, including about 12 track days this year, a 2000 mile trip up and down the mountain roads in California on an 1199, and a few other adventures. Ride 3-4 days a week and luckily I have a garage.
Budget is up to a top of about 7500, and was hoping for something fairly new, under 10k miles, CBR600RR, R6, ZX6R, Daytona, 848 or maybe even a blade/R1? (I do like fast-steering bikes so was thinking the 600’s). My insurance is pretty decent so that shouldn’t be a drama.
Any ideas from experienced guys would be really helpful.
I owned a Triumph 675R and I reckon it’s probably one of the fastest if not the fastest turning 600 on the market. Great bike. Super aggressive riding position and fantastic on the track. The gears go on forever!
I’m on a 750 now and it’s true that’s it’s not as twitchy as a 600 but it’s not far off. The extra cc is enough to stay with the litre bikes. The suzuki has a much lower riding position. You’re very much in the bike rather than on top of it. As a commuter it’s one of the better supersport options I would say.
You’ll pick up newish models of both within your budget and with your requirements.
I got myself a GSX-R750 a month ago. Cracking bike, can’t say anything bad about it. I also tried the ZX-6R 636 but found it very uncomfortable and had to rev the guts off it just to get it going. It’s a nice bike though if the ergonomics suit you. Gixxer won me over in 5 minutes though so have a go on it.
Thanks dude, I have heard good things about those… I tested a cbr1000 and the power was great but just felt a bit slow handling wise. I liked the CBR600 a lot but I just found I had the throttle fully open a lot, on the test ride! Maybe something with bigger legs might be the way forward…
I commute 5 days a week on mine and go blasting it about of weekends, I took my last one on a track and it’s just as at home on the roads as it is on track.
There’s a reason they have been producing them for 30 years and why they are so popular
I know the triple engine pretty well, think it’s a bit ‘special’ compared to a Japanese bike, which are probably more useable all round! Tried the mv agusta f3 800 too, that has got a weird power curve…
