Hi all. Just wanted to gauge some opinion on an invention I have completed and im touring various forums to get reaction to it. Any comments would be appreciated, whether it be to tell me you would never use it or saying it would be something you would be interested in. Basically I have now fully finished and manufactured a Bike cover that delivers a trickle charge to the battery of a motorbike or scooter using solar power. The covers are fully customisable and available in a wide range. Obviously the ideal market would be bikers who arent using there Bikes everyday and therefore cant always rely on there battery being as relaible as one used regularly. Also anyone who finds they are constantly having problems with dead batteries could find these very useful. How many people on this forum would find this useful and how many would find it essential for there needs, and by the same token how many think its an idea that will not take off and not something they see a point in. As I said any feedback is greatly appreciated. There is an e mail address and website available but Im not on here to advertise so wont be putting them on. I have tried to upload some pics of cover on here but my computer is playing up so anyone who wants to see it, I will e mail them no proble. Right now I just want opinions and if anyone really wants one or more info I can supply that another time. I myself own a Suzuki GSX -R 750 and find this works perfectly on my bike and the battery has never failed me since having this. (but im bound to say that arent I) Thanks for reading (if you got this far) Cheers Ryan
Sounds cool, personally I wouldn’t have a need for that - but I believe it could be helpful to some.
Although you do have to question that if people are riding during the day it would charge up anyway, and then overnight there would be no sun to charge it? Or can it store power generated during the day to use at night? If not why can’t excess power be stored and charge the battery over night?
I think this is a great idea, Ryan. I was wondering only the other day why car manufacturers don’t put solar cells on car roofs to keep car batteries topped up; I never thought about the bike cover possibility.
I recommend you patent this quick before Oxford Products try and pinch the idea!
The only reservation I have is that bike batteries usually go flat during the winter, when the sunlight is very weak and may not be strong enough to keep it topped up, if my SolarDAB Roberts radio is anything to go by!! Having said that I wouldn’t want to put you off, so you have my full support with this.
Might be wise to find some people who have had problems with their batteries going flat, and seeing if the cover helps them.
Hey, Its sounds like a great idea. Have you patented it yet? If not you had better pull your finger out or else you may have other people with more money to spend on getting manufacturing set up doing it better very quickly.
Good luck mate and I can really see this being a hit with fair weather bikers
sounds like a great idea for those that dont have garages (but then those that do will probably have an optimate or similar anyway. Can’t see how it’ll work if you only cover the bike at night unless its really sensitive (i.e. streetlights)
Well, the obvious downsides have been pointed out and in this country you might be flogging the proverbial deceased hippo.
When I’ve been in Europe, I’ve seen lots of bikes out in the open under covers, particularly in winter. (Anything damp and less than 25 degrees is winter in Spain/Italy.) So while your not going to make your fortune in England, there could be a good market for that in Europe.
Your idea sounds good to me and I hope you succeed with it.
Maybe you should make a poll thread, so people can vote on whether they think it will sink or fly. It’s quicker for members to click a yes or no button, than to type their thoughts for example.
Stick around on the forums you join as the people you meet through them may be your potential customers. Also, bikers are a cynical lot and don’t really warm to fly by nights.
I love the idea and hope it all goes well for you. I use my bike everyday so not needed but i suppose when i go on holiday for 3 odd weeks the battery could discharge a bit but not with your new cover.
I suppose if the price is right i might go for one.
as i already have a bike cover and an optimate i dout i would buy one but i still think their is a market as long as its a cheaper option than buying the two as a regular optimate works 24 hours
