New LCD monitor

yes yes… credit crunch or not… I’ve decided to upgrade my PC monitor with something more flashy, the Dell S2409W:

Got it out, loved it but the more I started to pay attention the more I realised it had on black pixel right in middle of screen, now I know it is there I always see it.

So what can I do? Seems manufacturer standars is 4 5 dead pixels… seems to me I only have one choice return it as an unwanted gift and buy a new one and hope that one is perfect but I would have to support the postage, so about 10Kg with Parcelforce from London to Manchester is £15 on a 2/3 days delivery. What do you guys think? Bother forking out the £15+ for one dead pixel or live with it?

Live with it.

Next one could be worse and then what you gonna do, another unwanted gift…

4-5 dead pixels as standard?! Thats rubbish! I’ve worked in IT for nearly 10 years and have only seen 1 or 2 brand new screens that have had dead pixels and they were returned as faulty.

Take it back to a shop that does the same make and model, with no receipt and ask for a straight exchange.

Thanks mate, I will return it then, if teh next one is worst I will drive up there:) and check it myself before picking it up.

Huh… does that work??? How can I do that???

9 times out of ten, if you take it back to a big retailer, and say that you lost the receipt, but you don’t want a refund, just a straight exchange, it usually works, as all the retailer does is send it back, and they don’t lose any money.

Only class 1 displays are guaranteed to have no bad pixels.
If there is a slip with the panel telling you how many bad ones are acceptable, then you may have to put up with it.
Always worth trying to get a replacement, though.

huh… more trouble and time wasted:)

I will have to check if anyone has that monitor but I doubt which means I will have to contact Dell direct see if they can do anything if not then it is going back and I will just have to pray the next one is OK. It is right smack in middle of screen so quite annoying.

If you are contacting Dell direct, if they are going to send you a new one, ask them to pick the broken one up as well. If they will not, then ask them for a pre paid returns label so that you are not out of pocket for the postage.

Where did the info about 3-4 dead pixels being acceptable come from?

.

Dell are good at replacing monitors - I had 3 before. Phone them about another problem with the monitor… ie monitor usb hub not working correctly. They’ll send you a replacement, AND pick up the old one.

Only down side is you’ll have to speak to Mumbai for 20-mins or so, faking a problem when they try to give you solutions…

I had the same issue a couple of years ago, had 2 missing pixels.

When I phoned customer services , I was informed that they would not change unles it’s more than 5 pixels, as this is classed as product tolerance if less than that.

We’ll never have anything from Dell again - had nothing but problems with their equipment.

+1 (ok well only 6 years in IT)

only 1 monitor with dead pixels returned as faulty

Really, I have had to deal with the tech team 2-3 times and of al the tech departments I found Dell the best…

OK guys thanks a bunch, if you know any specific numbers let me have them otherwise I will call the standard Customer Service Queries 0870 906 0010. They did advised me to try ://www.jscreenfix.com/

I will try it but I doubt that will get fixed. Seems it is only for stuck pixels which are usually coloured ones not black dead pixel ones.

return it if you are in time. I believe they will not replace the screen if the reason is 1 dead pixel. It is better to say that you do not like and you want to change it

something similar happen to me, the pixel was not dead but it was always green…it was on a sony laptop

Eman

so what did you do? replaced it? or returned and got a different one?

If you bought it by mail order then the distant selling law means you can send it back regardless of the problem if it’s not up to standard or something along them lines. It’s been a while since I knew these word for word, I’ll try to get a mate to clarify this.
