Was in the Honda dealership near my brother’s a couple of weeks ago, and the salesman mentioned that Honda might be introducing a twin-cylinder middleweight in 2012 - someting which would be along the lines of the all-rounder CB500.
I’ll ask my m/c journalist contact, he often knows stuff a year in advance.
He’s a bit slow on the replies as he road tests bikes by taking them on two or three day trips. Well, mostly. A few time a year he takes seven or ten day trips to Italy/Spain/Ireland/wherever if he gets his hands on the right bike.
77mpg still not that impressive when you’ve got cars knocking out that kind of fuel consumption these days, but it’s a start. As one of the commentors on the MCN page says - dump the DSG & chain in favour of traditional manual and a shaft-drive, hydraulic tappets & longer service intervals.
Don’t know if it would tempt me. New & used prices seem silly at the moment, but I’m def considering the BMW G650GS for next March. A plodder but should hopefully last the distance once the early teething probs are sorted and should be pretty economical to run.
