It’s finally time for me to replace my ageing lid, no not my actual head, although a little hair transplant/dye wouldn’t go amiss, but my helmet…ooer missus! :w00t:
Anyway I’ve narrowed it down to two options, both of which are Shoei as that’s what I’ve got at present, it does and has fitted me well so I’m going to stick with what I know.
So the two choices are…
Shoei XR1000 Caster TC2 in blue/black (1st pic)
or the …
Shoei XR1000 Camino TC6 in white/graphite (2nd pic)
I was told they are going to bring out a new Shoei range around Q4, can’t remember which shop it was. Anyone else back this up? If so then there should be some cracking deals going on Shoei helmets soon.
I’m looking at lids also. Got a Raid II but am looking at the XR1000 also, as well as the Arai Viper GT or Chaser. I like the XR1000 as a helmet but not sure about the font they use on those examples above. There’s meant to be an XR1100 range coming out in September, so Infinity(Gt P St) told me. (they are doing a trade in offer at the mo which is quite useful. They said the XR1100 has a wider aperture view and better ventilation or something. Might wait and see if it affects the other model prices?
George Whites are doing a scrappage scheme for Arais. They are giving upto £150 off the price of an Arai so worth having a look at too if you’re spending a couple of hundred quid.
I’m looking for a xr1000 as well and been watching prices. Looks like dealers are discounting stock now in advance of the new 1100 so availability on M/L sizes are starting to be effected. Torn behind holding out or buying now?
Camino in grey is my choice, but agree the new font is a bit questionable! Prices are between £230-275 for most models, anyone seen cheaper?
I’ve seen the Shoei xr1000 at £200 both at J&S and George Whites. George Whites was just a plain silver but J&S are selling the Miyu for £200 a sort of matt silver with graphics. Have a look. I’m sure there’ll be more coming up but like you said the most popular sizes will be gone most likely.
Thanks for the feedback guys, now my personal opinion is that I like them both but I like the Camino (white/grey one) more, apparently it was new for 2009 but I don’t know if it’s just the style that’s new or if there is anything significantly different between it and the Caster (blue/black one)?
The main difference between these two lids is the price, the Caster is £239.99 and the Camino (the one I prefer) is £336.99 but comes with a choice of a Shoei jacket worth £65 or a race visor worth £45. Both lids are from Helmet City.
Decisions decisions, I just need to be patient and wait an extra month to see what the prices do when the XR1100 comes out. Tricky as I’ve been waiting till now to afford a new lid and now I can finally afford it I just want to go out and get the damn thing!! lol :pinch:
Snap. What will probably happen is we’ll wait for the XR1100 then realise they forgot to make any nice colour schemes, then try and buy an XR1000 that we liked only to find there’s no stock left of the size we need in the sale…:hehe:If your money is burning a hole, the Camino is the best colour IMO.
Although I’m not looking to buy a lid that matches the bike as I don’t want to have to get a new lid if I ever change the bike because it doesn’t match!
I’m looking to replace most of my kit right now as it’s all seen better days so the lid is the starting point, I’ll be looking at stuff that is predominantly black so it matches and goes with most things, boots, gloves, bike!
Oh I know what you’re saying fella, I feel like a girl looking at a new handbag or a pair of shoes, it’s funny I’ve just manage to justify to myself that although the Camino is £336 if I take of the £65 for the Shoei jacket they are chucking in then the lid is only £271 which makes it £40 dearer than the Caster, which I’m prepared to pay in the interest of vanity!!
Hmmm, now that’s very interesting, according to those links M&P already have the XR1100 in stock?!?
