I’m looking for some new boots and have tried the SMX+ and Supertech’s. These seem like outstandig boots, but I can’t make my mind up as to which ones are better for me. The SMX+ feel very secure all over and I’d be happy with it. The supertech is so impressive and confortable, but I found that my heal moved in the boot, and it’s increase level of comfort didn’t make it feel as secure, though I’m sure it is.
Any body out there got either of these boots, any opinions?
Dont buy the supertechs!!! Yes I agree they do feel awesome but I tell you now if you buy them, you will break the zip at the back!!! I got fed up of constantly sending broken supertechs back to Alpinestars…thankfully we dropped them!
Dont worry too much about the heel lifting though…I know that sounds worrying but its just a peculiarity of having a ‘inner’ safety boot thats SO rigid, you get the same thing with the Daytona race boots…the designers incorperate heel lift into the design because the boot aint gonna budge
Go for the smx plus…youll love them once they break in…Jay just got a new pair…see what he thinks…but I do miss mine, got me some Daytonas and they are good…but I find they dont offer the same amount of feeling as the Alpinestars
SMX+ for sure, I’ve had two pairs now and have nothing bad to say about them! I have bad things to say about Sidi though, which was another boot I tried, and fell apart on me. I have crash-tested the SMX+'s a couple of times and they have done a sterling job, keeping me from injury, and surviving the crash themselves.
For me, they’re the most comfortable as well, I can wear them all day and not feel put out by it!
Going my own way ----- I bought some Gearne sports boots £170 ones (can’t remember title) and they and great!
Chris Vermeulen endorses them, and they are sooo comfortable and easy to use with a zip at the back and ski-type bindings around the leg. Loosen these and you can walk for hrs.
I’ve heard bad reports about A-star boots too (bits breaking off etc), which is a shame 'cause they look great. Guess the Gore-tex SMX would be the sensible buy being waterproof yet breathable.
I tried the Supertechs and it took me an age to get them on (apparently it’s common… ). I bought the SMX boots and they’re excellent. I’ve crashed in them and you can’t even tell.
Take a look at the Oxtar range, they are the only boot manufacturer to pass the CE standard for motorcycle boots (Before anyone says what about Hein gericke etc - Oxtar make boots for them)
They really are superb and are a wider fitting than most - the TCS Sport is really comfortable if you do a fair bit of walking and the Evo offers a higher level of protection but do compromise a bit on the comfort side.
They also do a good range of Goretex boots.
Quite agree about Gaerne, the quality is superb and fit is really good - just dont dont seem to be in vogue at the moment.
Daytona are definately the best if money is no object - styling is very dated though and rely on old fashioned craftmanship as opposed to cutting edge materials and design.
I would personally avoid Alpine stars at all costs, the returns rate is very high - they seemed to have diversified so much into other markets they seem to have forgotten about their core business leaving quality control a real issue
I have been wearing my SpidiXPD, day in and day out for over a year now… and I have had a couple of crashes in them. They have been an amazing pair of boots and recommend them for comfort and protection.
