YES YES… I cracked and I bought myself a 2002 CBR900RR, the 954cc one. The one in dark blue and white nose. Will send pictures later.
The thinking is that it seems to be the last of the versatile sportsbikes. I was looking initially for a GSXR1000 or 750 K5-K6. But realised that I didn’t really wanted to pay an extra £3000 for the extra 25 bhp and that with perhaps half that I could upgrade the bike as I get more used to it.
So since I saved a bundle I have a budget of about £1000 to upgrade it. I think it will mainly be in the handling department but what would you guys/gals suggest I start upgrading first? A common opinion is that a steering damper is the first thing I should put on it. Here is what I am thinking of doing gradually in this order:
- Steering damper
- Fork springs
- Rear shock
- New can with PC3 and remap.
What do you guys think?
Gosh I am excited!
thats imo the best looking blade… pics!!!

I’ll be picking it up tomorrow so more pictures then
It’s absolutely immaculate and completely stock. Will defo start with fitting crash bungs and we’ll see about the rest… Had a test ride this week and it’s absolutely magnificient, super-light (lighter than my thundercat), powerful from low down, and the scariest meanest brakes ever…:w00t:
Meanwhile just discovered that an NCB is earned only after the end of an insurance contract, not one year after your last accident… But that’s another post…:crying:
looks good mate
good time to buy it too… now the suns coming out!!! enjoy it mate
Nice bike!!
I’d suggest you ride it for a couple of months and get a good feel for it. Then maybe think about upgrades. The suspension is great in these bikes anyway.
Incidentally, that model is the lightest of all the Fireblades.
Enjoy!!!
ooooh good choice always wanted one of those.
Cheers guys. It’s nice to have someone to share my joy with…
Lovely bike indeed. My GF actually reckons it’s even better looking than the Ducati 848 I test drove a few months ago (although I still think that Duc is the best looking bike ever).
Power is on tap, it seems to pull from any gear, and the brakes take a lot of getting used to. Will have to retrain my emergency brakes skills. Suspensions seem to be pretty hard (maybe that’s normal coming from the Thundercat:Whistling:), and I have a feeling it’s like tilted towards the front, again that could be just me not being used to a more aggressive position. First thing I’ll do is go and get the suspensions adjusted for me.
I’ve also had a small scare. I stopped for petrol and when I cam back to it it wouldn’t start. The engine would turn but it wouldn’t start.:w00t: Tried all sorts (roll starting, switch off lights, even checked that I didn’t put diesel by mistake) but ended up calling the roadside recovery (good thing it was offered with my insurance). They came an hour later and when they arrived the bike started on its own, no problems… Since no problems whatsover. WTF? Dunno what could have caused this, wet spark plugs?
Anyway, I am absolutely delighted. I still think at the very minimum I should install crash bungs, and then perhaps a steering damper…
