New Bike Dilemma - Z1000SX/KTM SMT/Tracer 900/Tiger Sport?

Question for LBrs: A bike with new chain and sprockets after 22k miles. A sign of poor maintenance or Who cares, it’s new?
Like Kevsta I have owned a 990, and miss it but this one looks nice.... https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201804215781048?cc-from=900&make=KTM&radius=1500&postcode=wd233al&advertising-location=at_bikes&sort=price-desc&model=SUPERMOTO&page=1 --- Rusty99
The 990s tend to be a little heavy on the chain and sprockets.  I wore the first one out at 18K I think.  Good mileage you done on the SX, glad you are enjoying more that I did.

Found this last year model on eBay.  Rather liked the orange frame, it’s top end of your budget:

How about something like a BMW K1300R? There’s a few second handers knocking around £6k-7.5k that I saw recently.

I’m biased towards Honda’s these days

The Honda equivalent to those bikes would be the VFR800 or the Crossrunner both use the 800cc V4 engine which is a peach.  I’ve riden the Crossrunner and it is a very nice bike, a little top heavy, but seems lacking on character.  I’ll leave a more indepth report on the Crossrunner by Rosso as had one for a while.

But not for long…which in itself tells a story.

Yep he found it too top heavy.  Swapped to a new VFR800.

Thanks for all the replies! I have actually looked at the BMW K1200/1300 R/S but was a bit put off by the funny front end, and the sheer size of them! I think a lighter bike would be a better bet for the fun factor. At the moment the front runners would be the SMT and maybe the Tiger Sport or the Z1000SX. Test ride reports will be coming soon, I hope to get a day free where I can go round to some dealers and take some out.

It’s annoying there aren’t more ABS equipped SMT’s about though as that is something I’d like to have, having never had it before. I’ll keep an eye out

its the triumph tiger sport for me

& could be my next bike

Out of those bikes I’d be getting the 990SMT, but I’m biased.  Here is a great review from the great Kevin Ash:
