Number 10 Downing Street has approved a petition that was launched requesting a new public holiday falling on the Monday after Remembrance Sunday in November each year. To be known as the National Remembrance Holiday, it’s got three aims:

  1. To emphasise the remembrance of those servicemen and women who have given, and continue to give, their lives for Britain

  2. To remind people of the importance of protecting our Nation and what it stands for;

  3. To break that 3 month period between the August Public Holiday and Christmas when there are currently no long weekends, especially as the UK has fewer public holidays than most European Countries.

If you agree to the idea, please sign up to the petition - it doesn’t take long - and it would be great if you were to forward the link to other people as well. This is not just about another bank holiday, but more importantly about having a designated day to remember all those people that sacrificed their lives for our freedom.

I agree with this public holiday, and if those of you that read this post click on the first YouTube link in my signature that is dedicated to some fellow soldiers of my regiment, the footage is outstanding and could not be any more heart stopping, then you can see just what the members of all three services are and have been going through since 2001.

Right or wrong, conflict between nations is not an easy decision to make, sacrificing those that volunteer to serve their country and put them in to thearte so those back home can be assured that harm and protection can be told apart.

As for the long period between August and December it can be a hard slog and we all work our socks off to cater for an enjoyable festive season during this time, having a 3 day break would be nice.

It should be Chunky and i totally agree with you, St Georges Day of all days in this our England should be remembered more.

I celebrate St Georges day every year, i have flags on my car, bike and house.

It’s another slimey ploy by the corrupt regime we suffer now to curry favour with the voters - linking it to Remembrance Day and pretending they care about what’s happening to our Armed Forces at the moment.The similarly corrupt regime of the 60s/70s wished May Day on to us when St. George’s Day would have been better and only a week before.

If they really wanted to give us a mid-Autumn holiday, it should be on or near Trafalgar Day, i.e. in October.
