I was knocked of my Yamaha ybr 125 by a car and he admitted fault.I have just found out that his insurance company has written the bike off and I will be receiving a cheque I want to sell the bike as I get to keep it but is it possible to sell a cat d bike and what you reckon I could ask for it?
I don’t want much as I have made my money back through the payment from insurance.
asking how much a bike is worth without seeing it is impossible.
a cat D write off is no issue at all, normally nothing substantially wrong and no problems selling it on.
put pics up and an idea of what you would like for it and go from there
The right foot peg is bent and the rear foot peg and its bracket is bent. The back right shock is also bent and a few other scratches. I think it is also idling a bit high but have not run ot long enough to know if thats an issue.
Im going to get metropolis to check it over and see how much to fix and then will sell it once it’s road legal.I dont have to buy it back as they have effectively paid me out and minus a scrapage charge and then I keep the bike.
I dont want it anymore and would be happy with a couple hundred quid to get rid of but not sure if someone would buy it
Heck yeah I don’t think that would cost a fortune to fix. I’d be interested in buying it myself. My son and I recently repaired the things that you show being dinked (the exhaust and the peg) and it is the sort of project he could do over a weekend. As has been said though - it’s not worth too much, but maybe enough for a weekend away (Butlins not Dubai).
consider it’s not based on buying an old shock off ebay, it’s based on the price of a pair of new OEM shocks probably plus a new set of mounting bushings.
I picked the bike up today. I think the reason they wrote it off was a scratch/scuff to the front fork, not shown in the photos because it wasn’t part of the accident damage. Paul knew about that before the accident BUT the insurers probably included that in the repair estimate and that would have put the repair bill up significantly. Anyway, the bike is going to be a little project for my son - he’ll do the work and then we’ll probably sell it - other than the damage shown it really seems a great little bike and Paul had just recently had it serviced - so it starts and runs as it should.
He has a Malaguti version of the XT125R at the moment - so I suspect he’ll stick with that. Once he has the YBR shipshape, we’ll sell it (unless he has written off the Malguti by then.
Wife is wondering why we have four motorbikes here, so I hope this project won’t take long…
