Nearly

This morning on my way to work i thought i was going to die. I was stopped at traffic lights on the Edgwear road at the junction with swiss Cottage when i looked in my mirrors and saw a huge lorry in my lane not going to stop, i thought oh sit and accelorated over the line and as thight as i could on the railings to my right.
The lorry then swerved into the middle lane makeing the car there swerve on to the other lane and the lorry went straight through the red lights and didnt stop till the next set of red lights. A guy on a Bemmer bike said i was lucky as he thought the loory was going to run over me which he would of if i didnt look in my mirrors.
Got to the next set of lights where the lorry was still there and said "What the f
uck do you think you are doing, you stupid blind c*nt".
He then said he didnt see the red light and was overtaking the car which was slowing down. I said he was slowing down because of the red light. The lorry driver didnt even say sorry or anything or said he was i the wrong.
When i got to where i park my bike, i got off it and sat down on the kerb as what had happened had hit me and i think i was a very very lucky person today because if i didn`t look in my mirrors i would have been under the lorry and dead.

Wooooh, lucky one there!! i’d make sure ya put the lottery on, glad u looked in the mirrors…foookin lorry drivers :Whistling:

Makes you think doesn’t it, and being in a car wouldn’t necessarily have helped either. Glad you’re OK and still here

jeez sod that, be carefull out there guys n girls.

only ever been one time in my 9 months riding(big bikes) when i have had to get off the bike and reflect on how lucky i was, i never wanna have to do that again.

ALWAYS look in the mirrors when stopped and I try to had an escape route planned in case somebody like your truck driver happens by…You were lucky…

glad your still with us john,

you gotta love those mirrors, bet they get special clean and polish next time you do the bike

Phwew; scarey moment!!

I knew there was a reason that I keep checking my mirrors to see what the traffic behind me is doing whilst I am waiting at the lights.

Some years ago a friend was left disabled when a coach full of visiting French school kids run over him whilst he was on his bike at a red light.

damn that was close!
your skills saved you there, thats for sure

have to admit i feel amazingly exposed on 2 wheels at traffic lights if there is no-one behind (i always keep checking)

that stems from a fair few years back when a muppet smacked into the back of my car at a fair old pace at red lights one morning, on a bike i would have been hurt no doubt

You lucky m8 ! Good for you paying attention to stuff going on behind you ! Wish I had bigger mirrors on my one…

Anyway what are the numbers for Saturday’s draw ?

damn JP!! bet you lost a couple of hairs from that!! I know I would!

Glad to hear your ok!

Feckin Grand I paid him, I knew he’d feck it up :DTell your Mrs I’m working on plan B ;)

Glad your alrite mate ;)

lucky there mate.

thankfully.

Glad years of admiring yourself in the mirror paid off mate

SO glad you had the insight to check…must admit that made me think…cos i dont always do that once stopped at lights?..you kind of hope that people behind would do same and stop…it always makes you think when someone has things like this happen to them…it wasnt your time, thank goodness…but i know what you mean, you have to get off the bike and sit for a second to get your thoughts and thank god you are still here…sobering thoughts eh?

JohnP you are a lucky lucky man, and it is all down to your skills in checking your mirrors when stationary. I learned this the hard way and now check when I’m stopped at junctions/lights etc… Glad you made it out alive. Must be a real knee shaker!

Bloody hell, John! That was a close call, glad you came out with just some harsh words for the lorry drive. Glad you are ok.

Bluddie hell  glad you’re OK mate (and that the stains come out of your pants).
I try and keep an eye on what’s behind me when at lights. After this I’m gonna keep more of an eye on what’s behind me.

Really good riding skills for seeing him.

I missed a lorry not stopping behind me a couple of years ago and it hurt my bike (luckily not me) to the tune of £2,700.

It’s very, very easy to forget mirrors.

Glad you’re OK.

Think we have all have had near death or serious injury experiances on a bike and its not nice especially when your jus minding your own business espcially bad if your sitting a red light john, But not sure what LBer said it to me many moons ago but think its needed thing in riding getting that wake up call every now and then keeps you sharp and aware something made you look in that mirror, and i bet thats something you will do alot more now and not just to see how pretty you aint…

glad you are ok mate, i’m in the habit of always checking my mirrors when i am at the lights…that does not make me feel any better, the idiots out there are so many and just a brief distraction on my part and they do me in

for drivers jumping the lights i have no mercy :-[
i would report it for dangerous driving if i were you especially since a truck can have a more destructive impact than a car when coming to a halt…and as i understand it the driver didn’t even attempt to brake…what the feck!
