My Missus Bandit is misbehaving, as usual. It started today first time, she wheeled it off the drive while she got her stuff together. It cut out and then would not start, behaving like the battery had gone flat. Click whir whir …whir…whir etc. She rode it yesterday for a couple of hours so don’t think the battery should have gone flat overnight. Put it on charge for half an hour this am, starts turning over and almost makes it, then flat again…It’s not flooded (Yes it’s an 05 so has carbs!) (Old skool)

Any ideas?
It has a datatool 3 if that might be doing something.

Are you anywhere near a big antenna (Crystal Palace or anything like that)?

Have you tried making the alarm go off and then resetting it?

this seems to be a recuring problem with bandits, there are a few replies on here somewhere. if i come across them i’ll post it here for ya

I’ll have a search as well. Should have done that first really. Yeah, reset the alarm etc. No difference.

Try and see if you can stick an optimate on it and see if the battery is dead. It could be that the battery is on its way out and that the alarm system is draining what ever it has left. Cells do go just like that and if this is the case then it will effect the whole battery.

I would say that the alarm is not causing the issue as it wouldn’t turn over due to the immoboliser not allowing this.

Check also the terminals on the battery and make sure they are tight and not corroded in any way.

Let us know the age of the bike/battery and how you get on.

I had a dead battery on my Bandit last year which had similar symptoms, stuck a new battery in and it was good as gold afterwards.

I had the same problem when I had a Bandit. Replaced the battery several times, but it just kept happening. In the end, I took the alarm off altogether and it started first time every time after that.

happens alot with bandits, the alarms kill the battery…i have a spare for a mrk1 bandit (not sure if its the same size??) sitting in the garage if you want it mate, i’ve got no need for it

Thanks alot guys. I went and got a battery, will try and disconnect the alarm and install the battery and let u know how it goes.

had similar probs with mine and i had a datatool 3 on it to. i had to have a new battery every year, and the bike was used all year round. one school of thought is the headlight which is hardwired on, buit doesnt seem to affect other bikes.

i also had a knackered starter clutch which didnt help, might be something else to explore.

Put the new battery in yesterday. So far, so good. Cheers for the advice.
