my ride to cotswolds

Bradford on Avon - Calne ( and any adjacent towns i came across ) tourist attractions seen Great Chalfield Manor, Brad. on Avon Tithe Barn, Bowood House, Butterfly world

Yep this is another one of my random posts, I got my ass out of the city been needing that for a while now. I don’t care what anyone says I found that Bradford on Avon is a prettier town than Bath - as it’s smaller, loads of old buildings with character, my hotel was right by the river…

ok, i can’t be bothered to list about every place i’ve been to, what i am going to say is Lacock village is just amazing!!! and it has trail walks, i was close to leaving my bike and fucking off on a long walk, hehe, it made me feel like getting rid of the thing that bought me here, how can i ever be free if i’m tied down with a bike ( yep those are the sort of crazy thoughts were running through my head ) Castle Combe is just as beautiful but smaller than Lacock, medieval architecture everywhere, anyone who’s into this sort of era i would strongly suggest to visit those towns, i’ve found out on this trip that i’m in love with 14th, 15th century towns.

hehe, at one point of my trip i decided to bypass A & even B roads, and go on those roads that dont have a number on my map, the sort of roads that are big enough for one car to go through, god those bring a hippie in me  there was one road i rode on where i tried to avoid horse poo but there was so much horse poo on the road that after while i just gave up. i’ve passed loads of farms, my top speed was 18mph haha, that was so refreshing! ( i wont mention the sort of speeds i was doing on a motorway…all i’m going to say is when i need to get to my destination i like to get there quickly) but on those roads my bike turned into a push bike and yet again i was starting to wonder why don’t i have a push bike hehe. and pretty much from then on all i did is searched out those little roads, it’s a great feeling to follow the little signs and see only sheeps and cows on around than cars, whenever i’d go on a main road i’d almost feel out of place, as i was thinking that doing a 38mph in a 60mph , i saw a biker behind me whom i moved over to the left for who was doing what seemed like above speed limit, and i thought to myself - i need to find myself another one of those little roads to hide myself to escape. i don’t think i could ever live in those villages, but i can definitely see myself aimlessly riding from one to the other.

on the first night of my stay i got drunk, chatted to a barman, by the end of it he decided to give me a shot on the house…he didn’t have to though. i’ve enjoyed his company, i’ve enjoyed just talking/finding out about him and then never seeing him again… all my trips lack me meeting people like that, there is nothing better than meeting someone for a short period of time discussing the outmost deepest conversations with strangers that you’ll never have with your friends, finding out about them and then few hours or days later…saying goodbye and being on your way. a trip is never good enough if i havent met crazy/insane people on the way.

i went wrong way at one point and ended up seeing the fields where barbury castle used to stand, there as one hippie looking guy was passing me told me “So are these are the downsides to biking?” - i had my rucksack on my back, my tankbag in my hand, my helmet, my coat  funny that, as he said that i was already thinking about putting a nice ugly top box on my bike - i don’t care what anyone says and yes if i ever have a sports bike i will put a top box on that too!! :stuck_out_tongue:

some nice pictures there Anna. How long did u go for? I recon that you shoulda taken a tent and left the bike somewhere safe and just buggered off on foot somewhere randomly.

That looks fantastic, i really need to make the effort to head out into the country more at weekends.

i went on a sunday morning and came back today, i’ve stayed in hotels. next time i suppose i should just research where there are loads of trail walks, book a hotel there or near there, leave bike at the hotel and then start walking

that’s only quarter of the pics i took  on my shitty phone. let’s just say it’s not my camera that makes those places look wonderful

Nice. And as long as you have nothing more to worry about than how much freedom you’ve got then you’ve probably still got plenty of it.

Brilliant stuff

Also pondering going to the Cotswold at some point for a tour, now I definitely need/want to

Cotswold ?

i just looked at my work rota and it looks like i’ll be having six days off coming up in september, i’m thinking about going really all out and effing off to scotland, i want to go somewhere where local people havent seen anyone but sheep & cows all their lives and don’t know what city looks like…oh yeah!!
