Quieter, not draughty, can operate the vents with gloves on, visor pops down properly and stays down with no sudden gusts of wind blowing in, visor comes off and on without risk of damage and it’s half the price. Not strictly a fair comparison as mine is a summer track helmet designed to shift 24 litres of air a minute… and the XR1000 is a road helmet so maybe I just bought the wrong one but the general design of the Shoei is better than Arai. Need to count my beans
True, not a fair comparison as such.I can’t say I’ve had any problems with Arai visors, perhaps you just need to practice changing visors a few times. I don’t think you are risking anything damaging when changing an Arai visor. If your visor doesn’t stay shut and lets in a draught then the base plates need adjusting mate. You need to remove the side pods, loosen the base screws, push the visor to seat properly each side and then do the screws up. Don’t forget to keep the seals soft with silicone juice;)
It’s been back to the shop (authorised Arai service centre, have been very good tbh) to be adjusted several times, it’s had the vents blocked off etc, all sorts of things, it’s still noisey, draughty and even when I move my head from left to right, the draught changes. The visor is fully closed, any tighter and it would deform slightly which would force one side to open.
It’s simply not in the same league as the Shoei for road riding - if anybody wants an Arai RX7 Corsair, excellent condition, 6 months old with spare skull piece let me know !
Yes the raid 2 gets cracking reviews!, i was very very impressed, last night whilst riding home from work it was hammering down, usally with the hjc id be fogged up, have rain coming through the inside between the visor and rubber seal etc…, but with the shoei, nowt, it stayed clear thanks to the pinlock and fogcity (as standard) and once the visor was shut, it was shut!! so i give it 10/10!
