OK, no unfortunately it’s not pictures of a gorgeous girl of the female persuasion, but it’s close and curvy
My new 2001 SV650S, aptly named ‘Suzy’. She’s brilliant!
Just a quick thing though… when trying to remove the old tax disc holder I managed to shear the bolt that holds the front nearside brake hose into the fork. One half broke off in the wrench, the other is still in the bolt hole… how on earth do I get it out!? I’ve got a replacement bolt of correct size, just need to get this one out!
Alwasy good to work your way up in bikes! Whos the burk sitting on ya new bike…
As with the sheared off bolt, it happens. we have all done it. There will be a few people to help ya out. I have personally in the past taken a dill bit a tiny winy fraction smaller than the bolt and drilled it out. Depends though. You dont want to ruin the thread, dont wanna slip and scratch your new bike. Without seeing it i cant say for sure. Plus my brain aint working today…sorry
with the bolt, personally I like to drill them out as much as possible then take a dremel to them. before I get down to the thread, the tension’s usually loosened and I can reverse drill it out
small sharp drill bit ( and i mean about 4mm small if not 3mm)
good drill … dont go pressing hard on drill let it o the work just gentle pressure be careful if you drill all way through you dont go through tyre/blanked off side of bolt hole etc
buy a set of screw extractors … these are reversed thread so as they screw in they lock in the direction to undo bolt and try that … they thread into the small hole you just drilled
or if that fails slightly larger bit redrill . and continue and try larger extractor etc
if that doesnt work drill larger until you are close to threads but dont hit them and with a small punch or chisel attempt to collapse the remaining section of thread/bolt left in on its self
Well decided it was too much stress to attempt the bolt myself today, so going to send the mother out with a list to purchase items for a monday-night workshop session.
Tomorrow is set aside for deep-clean time. Every nook and cranny is being cleaned to make that little bike (Now named ‘Suzy’) gleam, and a little bit to make it especially ‘mine’. Plus she deserves some TLC, poor girl’s been garaged up for the last two years.
Although first I still have to get rid of my GPR, the garage is getting rather packed at the moment, with the SV, my dad’s Transalp and my GPR as well as the myraid of other stuff we keep in there. Even after clearing it out today we can only just about fit three bikes in there! :w00t:
