Got rear ended down near Poole last night. Traffic came to a stop so I stopped too. One moment I was thinking about going round the traffic, then I was looking down at the traffic from a birds eye view (literally), before being deposited on the pavement several feet away.
The cop reckoned she hit me because my tail/brake light was so small… Aahh-yes, she didn’t notice a 14st bloke on a motorbike in the middle of the road right in front of her in broad daylight… because his taillight isn’t big enough!
Damage assessment so far:
side pods on tail scratched (both sides)
side fairings scratched (both sides)
nose cone badly scratched/cracked
front mudguard cracked with bits missing
ram tube cover cracked/scratched
mirrors (both sides - one broken off, other scratched)
left engine casing badly scuffed
gear lever broken off
gilles lifter scuffed (left side)
subframe bent
exhaust bent and scuffed
undertray cracked
tail light cracked
swingarm marked
This all looks quite bad listed like this, but alot of the damage is only scuffs and scrapes. However the insurance simply replace anything that is marked. So bearing in mind that the can alone costs £800, and the swingarm another £800… I think that the total bill, including labour, could quite possibly be very close to two thirds the value of the bike, which means it will be classed un-economical to repair
I’m quite surprised how well I crash actually. Got some discomfort in my back which I’m having checked out this morning, but otherwise not a scratch - I was fully kitted out though. I was wearing a Wolf two-piece made by Harpers, with Arai lid and Alpinestars boots - very few marks on my kit. The left knee and forearm padding took most of the impact when I landed. I think it was the launch that did something to my back. A lady that saw it all happen came over afterwards and said, “You really went high you know.” Do any of the superhero’s wear a blue/white cape?
chuffster - I think you’re right mate. Breaks my heart, because this is the bike I’ve enjoyed riding most, of all the bikes that I’ve ridden. If they don’t write it off, I’ll give it some love and have it better than before (maybe some BST wheels…). If they do write it off, I reckon I’ll put the money toward a new K7.
See thats what makes me dislike the old bill. Someone hits you from behind they are in the wrong could have broken your spine but of course its cause your rear light is so small, not that the car driver wasnt paying enough attention and made a mistake!
