well today I christened my GPZ I rode her into work for the 1st time as managed to tax her saturday. Was a little scared as 1st big bike but yer all was cool pretty smooth and not to much traffic which helped and boy am I glad to be back on the bike.
I have decided that after 2 weeks of using public transport it is not for me.
I would leave at the same time in the morning and in the evening and this was the result.
Pubic Transport
Leave 8:30 have to change trains arrive at work between 9:45 and 9:50 there we also 3 delays in that 2 week period
way home leave at 6pm have to change stand in the pi$$ing rain and and freezing temps arrive home between 7pm and 7:15pm
Bike
Leave 8:30 get to work between 9:10 and 9:20
way home leave at 6pm home by 6:40 to 6:50
also the added advantage I do not have to fight for a seat on the bike!!
I had an enforced 8 week period of “pubic trainsport” due to accident and then bike being stolen… Drove me up the wall. Would take me 1h15 to get to work or get home. Timings were also crap for me, so I would either be an hour early or late.
Back on the bike again. 40 minutes each way, 50 at the most. Comfortable, at times that suit me and I get there wide awake and in a good mood, even if I have been riding in the snow!
Its the way to go. i commuted into London for Years and worked it out one day that it saved me a total of 2 days a month in wasted time sitting in traffic:w00t:
An extra 30 minutes with the kids! Sounds like purgatory. But the mine are in their 20’s and I just can’t get the bu**ers to move out.
Welcome to the club of “I enjoy my commute”.
Just take care out there and don’t get too confident too soon. After *0 plus years of doing this, I’m still being surprised at how stupid some mobile chicane drivers can be.
Remember, a lot of them need a white stick to find their way to the car in the morning.
