My first off... ouch.

So today (before the snow), the conditions seemed mild, and the roads seemed wet but not very slippery, so I decided it was fine to ride to Liverpool Street.

I got to Muswell Hill, went around the main round-about a touch slower than normal, and a bus pulled out from a bus stop that is situated on the round-about. He indicated, but they always do for a while before they move, and when they do, they never usually cross my path.

This time however, there was a bus in front of this one, and the driver needed to swing out to get around the other bus. He covered most of both lanes and I felt like I was going to hit him. I hit the brakes; too hard it turns out, and the front end slipped onto the inside. Everything went slow motion and I dived off the falling bike, sliding out on my hands and knees.

First thing i did was get the hell of the round about before I got hit by another bus, and watched as both cars, busses and bikers passed me.

Dusted myself off… pulled bike into a safe spot and collected the glass from my indicator, which was broken in the crash. The bike overall seemed fine, still started and ran all the electrics and the brakes seemed to work. The mirrors bent back to their original positions and the bars looked straight.

However, there was a very slippery patch of something (petrol or oil?) where the bike had been on it’s side… What could that have been?

I parked up the bike and contined to the party by public transport… so so long, and in bike gear with helmet! The snow came and it got bad, so I couldn’t collect the bike, and I had been drinking anyway.

No injuries other than a sprained wrist and ankle. Thank god for all the gear I had on, or it would have been a broken toe and kneecap looking at the state of my gear.

Gonna look over the bike again when the snow fcks off. Oh well. Sht happens

Guess I was just lucky nothing was right behind me.

At least you’re ok, that’s the main thing

Sorry to hear about the off :frowning:

Atleast you are ok though

Yeah, no biggie really. I have never moved my arse as fast as I did when I didn’t know there was no one behind me.I was out of the road so fast!

If there had been someone right behind, it could have been messy.

EDIT: Just showed a friend this thread o sae myself re-explaing the accidnet, he said he had to laugh at my forum status… I really am a “roundabout scratcher” now!

good to hear you’re alright. i left my house at about 8pm this evening (walking down to the pub) and it slipped on a bit of black ice it was probably that what you saw unless it was rainbow coloured in which case it was a patch of diesel

hey mate glad to hear your alright, if the weather is iffy the smart money is on leaving the bike at home, next time you might not be so lucky.

But its good you ok.

J

Glad to see your ok after that.

Aha now you’re well on the way to becoming an “experienced” biker, think of that incident as part of the initiation ceremony.

Glad you and the bike are not badly hurt. Good job you were wearing the right gear.

Anything you can walk away from! Glad you’re well.

Agree with the above, glad you are ok.

Glad you’re ok.

The fluid was probably a little spilt fuel.

Give the bike a proper going over when you get the chance for any fluid leaks and that the steering has no play and is smooth left to right.

Take it easy.

Said it before, bikes no matter how damaged can be repaired, humans are far more difficult.

Glad your ok, a few bruises will heal quickly. Shame about the mate.

As Afro said, it could have been oil, or salt, or anything.

Roundabout scratcher :):) lol

Don’t over dwell on it mate - or you might lose confidence (you will lose some). Just treat it as a learning exercise - and get back on (as soon as it’s safe).

Glad injuries were only to the bike and superficial.

Or maybe he just shat himself? ;)

Haha, yeah maybe I shat myself xD

The whole thing didn’t shake me up as much as I thought it would, I was more furious at myself for pulling the break so hard, I threw my gloves off!

Once I stood the bike up, the leaking stopped, thought I’m fairly sure the fluid was from my bike… I think there was a smell of petrol so I guess it was that.

Thanks for the kind messages

Maybe another argument for putting ABS on more bikes perhaps.

Riding the courier bike around (which has ABS) and braking hard over crappy surfaced London roads was very strange to start with…In fact I didn’t know the bike had this feature until I had to brake to avoid a stupid pedestrian, and the brakes did the brake on brake off thing.

Pretty useful in these crap conditions.

it happens to all of us sooner or later.
The fluid on the floor might have been petrol, I know on my bike when it’s on it’s side petrol dribbles out of the breather pipe slowly. doesn’t sound like yours was down for long though

Sorry to hear this and that nobody helped you
I hope you’re not too sore today

As they say - anything you walk away from is okay - just annoying due to the costs incurred.

I reckon it was crap too, probably leaked out of Kevsta’s pants as he went round it earlier

  1. glad to hear your ok

  2. who the hell thought it was a good idea to put a bus-stop on a roundabout, how stupid!

  3. report the bus, he shouldn’t have pulled out. Highway code i think says give way to the bus, but only if you can and its safe. just cos they indicate, doesn’t give em right of way. he caused an accident.

I think too many times the bus drivers get away with bad driving, they are up there with Addison Lee drivers in my books… saw another A.L death trap manouvre on the A2 last night…
