I think your Insurer will have a hard job wriggling out of that one. When does night start? When does day start? You have a perfectly reasonable reason why it wasn’t in the garage - you may have left it outside as you were about to go out on it?
That’s a very good point, you need to find out what the insurers consider to be night and day. They may actually stipulate it somewhere in the T&Cs, if not just send them an enquiry from a newly set up hotmail/yahoo email account if you don’t want them to link the enquiry to your claim.
It takes 6 months for the ombudsman to investigate complaints and some insurers will take the p*ss knowing people want paying sooner than that, so it does no harm to cover all the worst scenarios from the off.
I may be wrong, and i am sure some of the coppers on here will tell me if they feel i am, but i am convinced the police dont look for any stolen items. It isnt time productive for them. If they come across lots of items stored they will check whether it has been reported stolen, but in most cases the victim will get a crime number and its logged into their system, never to be thought of again.
thats why i like Smiled’s idea of doing or own deterence
Blimey, two bikes stolen in two days, a Gixer then a CBR 600. Is it the case that almost every bike stolen is a sports bike? Will be sticking to my Bandit, methinks :ermm:
Very sorry to hear of your loss, Kempo. I hope it either gets found and returned to you in decent nick, or you get a sizeable and swift payout from your insurers.
Surely it can’t be legal for them to nulify your insurance if you get it out of your garage and pop indoors to get something or as in this case, pop in doors before going to the garage.
Is there a stated radius from your home adress that says it’s not covered?
I thought these policies said “normally garaged” etc.
So what if it had been left on the street and stolen ? Surely the fact that it was not locked up in its normal garaged spot would mean it was then just on the road as normal ?
You hadnt parked it there for the night in its normal locked up spot , just was on the street.
You were in the process of putting the bike into the garage. It is obvious that part of this process requires the bike to be outside the garage without you on it.
I cant stress how “gutted” i am for both you and smiled. These scrotes get more and more confident every bike they steal. Something has to be done NOW !!! Tracker and Almax should be supplied compulsory by the bike manufacturer for no extra charge!
where abouts in fulham mate? i know pretty much all the local scroute hide out places for stolen bikes in pretty much the whole borough (hammersmith and fulham)
