I’ve come across this a lot around Barking for some reason! The pushchairs (with a baby/toddler in 'em) are actually pushed out in front of oncoming traffic to make it stop. The technique seems to involve picking a crossing point a few yards from a proper crossing and with the pusher simultaneously talking to their friend and avoiding any sort of eye contact with the motorist, presumably because, in their heads, that negates any responsibility for their mad actions; 'If I don’t see ‘em they’re not there.’ Truth is, though, it’s impossible to ride anywhere in the city now without constantly assuming some loon is going to do something unexpected and stupid. And the annoying thing is they sacked that big tall green bloke that used to appear at the roadside and give pedesterians a bollocking for being silly.
