Moving to London and thinking about take my Fazer with me. Bad idea? Any tips?

Yes its all good in the summer but what you want is a place near the tube so you can still get to work in the winter

Maybe its because I’m a Londoner

Born within the sound of and all that but its been 25 years since I’ve lived in London proper, we sold the River side flat in Tottenham in '92 and have never looked back. For my money inside the M25 is not the place to be. Although I could give many reasons why I’d want to live in London again, the cons now far out weigh the pros. Have a look outside the M25 but not beyond London Underground

If you are going to be working in or around the Blackfriars area and want to move outside of the City, try to find somwhere near to a District Line Tube Station, this goes straight to Blackfriars. But, why not ride in the winter? the only thing i do not ride in is Snow, the cold and rain never bothers me so if you can face the Winter months on the bike then don’t let public transport links sway your decission.

“If you are going to be working in or around the Blackfriars area and want to move outside of the City, try to find somewhere near to a District Line Tube Station, this goes straight to Blackfriars.”

yes, that’s the case, I’ll work just next to Blackfriars station. And would be nice to being able to commute easily by tube during specially hard days (snow, too heavy raining… ice?)
Living near to District Line was the original suggestion given by the recruiter, but when I started looking for a nice area there… I did read not nice things about East London, and didn’t know where are the good areas next to district line there. In reddit some folks suggested around Bow/Mile End/Stepney Green… and since I saw an university there… I though it would be ok ^_^’
I’m lucky to have you experienced London people and also bikers who understand better my commuting situation and worry about my bike safety

Pricetta and Marmablade your concrete suggestions are great :D, I did need to know which places could be good to live in east.

It’s worth noting that London bike parking rules are not straightforward, each area has it’s own rules about where you can park for free.
When I lived in the borough of wandsworth I could park just about anywhere and they even turn a blind eye to pavement parking as long as you don’t block the path. half a mile away in Lambeth, you’re only allowed to park in designated bike bays.

It doesn’t have to be east london, the district line goes out as far as Upminster in Essex which is lovely and is only 58 Mins on the district line to Blackfriars. or you can get the C2C over head line to Fenchurch Street then the District line from Tower Hill to Blackfriars which in total takes around 45-50 mins but is a much nicer journey as the C2C trains are lovely compared to the District line.
If you were to move Essex bound on the District line i would avoid anything between Plaistow & Dagenham, anything before and after these stops are fine, those areas aren’t the nicest in the world (No offence to anyone from there, but i’m sure you will agree with me)

Or if you really wanted to save more money you could move out toward Laindon or Basildon in Essex, this would add about 20-30 mins to your daily commute into London but is much cheaper and you would get a garage easily, then if you did need to get the Train in the winter months, Laindon is on the C2C line which is direct into Fenchurch street in about 40-50 Mins.

I had a chat with the company. I’ll start on october

BTW, I checked an insurance comparator… 330pounds the cheapest price for a Third Party insurance (the next one was over 400). Whaaaaaat? I’m currently paying around 110 pounds :’(

Get at least TPFT as TP won’t cover against theft. Be prepared to pay much more though in that case.

I live in the Stratford/Maryland area and can confirm everything guys said about Bow, Mile End, Stepney Green. Not the areas I’d choose to live in, let alone park my bike. Stratford is not too bad, if not a bit crowded and a bit more expensive. There are loads of transport links into the city (bus, tube, C2C, overground) and it takes 6 minutes to get to Liverpool Street. Parking wise - not so sure. I got lucky as my block of flats has a gated area behind the building with railings to chain the bikes to but you might be able to find something similar near here too.

Oh God… U_U’.

Since you all think the same about Zone 2 District Line and I was starting to feel desperate about finding even a private car parking (very weird as I’m used to find garages almost everywhere in Valencia)… I went back to Pricetta suggestions:
“Wanstead, Woodford, South Woodford are nice options”

I checked Wanstead on spareroom and found so many good places for around 600 pounds bills included. Great rooms and houses, less people to share house with, houses with nice patios and space to park on the entrance… and seems that it would fit well with my lifestyle (I love green spaces, and that place is like a giant park). And the thing is that it seems a very safe residential area, where I could park the bike on the entrance covered and locked and sleep easy at nights :stuck_out_tongue:

Even there is an NCP car parking (near tube station) with monthly 40 pounds fee for motorbikes

The company confirmed me that I will work near Mansion House tube station, and checking the exact location is about 5 minutes walking (Google time, so actually will be less time) from Bank Central Line station. That would make my commuting very easy from Wanstead or close zones.

My only “but” is that Wanstead is just the first zone 4 station (177 monthly, lol), but as I plan to use the tube only when I really need it and everything else seems great… I think Wanstead zone is the best place I could commute from.

I didn’t even know about that zones until you suggested them to me. I owe you one!

I’d also have a look south of the river too if you’re working in the city. You can get trains direct into London Bridge (short walk over the bridge to the city), Cannon Street station (right next to Mansion house).
