Im doing a front end mod on one of my bikes which requires the yokes to be machined out to accommodate bigger forks so im looking for someone that can machine the forks out to the right stanchion diameter
Does anyone know of a machine shop in or around london that deals with motorcycle modifications/custom jobs?
I could go to an engineering work shop but would rather find a place that has experience in machining motorcycle parts as they would likely have the tools required for such a job, hence saving me the extra cost associated with tooling and one off charges that you may find with larger engineering companies.
All bike engineering in Greenwich are technically capable. But I’m not sure if they’ll do it.
Was looking at doing the same for my thundercat it ended up just being cheaper to get new yokes and retro fit them to the t’cat. I ended up not doing it in the end.
What bike do you intend to mod someone on here may have already done the same mod. Their experience might prove to be useful.
Cheers ricco.
I’m planning to upgrade the forks on my hornet to cbr600 F4 forks. Should give a better frond end and fully adjustable forks. Can also up grade the callipers with loads to choose from other than the crappy standard ones.
The fork mod requires the stock yokes to be machined out from 41 to 43mm for the forks to fit.
Ill make the enquiry with all bike and see what they say.
Check out the microfiche diagrams on cmsnl(dot)com if the headstock bearings are the same you may get away with just swapping the yokes/forks rather than having to machine/fabricate your own
Probably easer and better to swap the yokes off the cbr onto the hornet as well
I for one would not be happy reducing the strength of the yokes by enlarging the fork holes
Depending on exact years /models the head races are either the same or easy to modify (different taper rollers )
I have thought about just swapping the yokes as on the faceof it it seems like the easier option providing they are a a straight swap.
If they aren’t, however I could have the following problems:
1: The steering stem may have different dimensions to thatof the hornet and might not fit into the hornet frame properly.
the tope yoke off the cbr 600 doesn’t have a handle barclamp which is what you get on the top yoke of the hornet, hence id either haveto still perform some machining on the cbr top yoke ( albeit removing less material) in order tofit a handlebar clamp.
The other option would be to fit clip ons but I don’t wantto do that on the hornet.
