motorcycle gear (leathers,boots,etc.)

well ive just bought an r6 and only have textiles at the moment, and now im thinking i need to upgrade my gear with leathers and new gloves/ boots.

what makes should i get ? and where should i buy these?

im not rich but am concerned about quality, id rather buy once and have them ages ive just seen a nice dianese 1 piece set that is in a sale from £700 to £475 sounds good?

anyone work in a bike clothing shop? advice please or should i wait for the bmf show in may?

thanks in advance

go to a few shops and try on a few sets, see what make you’re most comfy in. if you see a good deal then grab it but if not def wait till the bmf and you can pick up some fantastic deals!

i tried on the dianese but having never worn leathers i dont really know how they should feel?

If your trying new stuff it should feel tight but not restrictive.

You should be able to do all the stuff you can usually do, touch your toes, get your hands to meet, arms extended, in front of you, over your head, behind your back, squat with you bum on your heels and so on, without too much strain.

A bit of effort is o.k., they’ll stretch and loosten.

Of course, if you can’t do any of the stuff noted above when you’re only in your underwear, you’ll have to make up your own mind.

are all the makes much of a muchness???

Definitely not.

There is thickness, leather quality and matching, stitching quality, etc, and a whole lot more.

Even Frank Thomas admit to two different quality specifications and controls.

You (kind of) get what your paying for, but then brand names with good perception of brand, f8ck that up. A bit like helmets.

Take your time. This is not a cheapo purchase and there is no rush. Good fabric stuff is commonly a whole lot better than bad leather and remember…

For the last hundred years, people have been riding bikes without even owning proper gear. Not all of them died.

Got RST rift stuff myself which seems to be getting popular with the tightwads amongst us

very comfy and “breaks in” quick not exspensive and they do either 1 or 2 peice sets, as others said go to various shops and try before you buy, dont just put them on and stand there, crouch down n move around see how they feel

Also got RST stuff, yesterday actually, George White in Slough - outlet centre for bike clothes, rails off stuff, most on sale

I brought Wolf leathers 3 years ago, and they are still going strong.

Wolf are made solely by Harpers stores, they are situated in Forest Gate, and Liegh on sea.

They also give a 5 year guarantee on the stitching.and as they make the leathers, they can alter, add or adjust them to whatever standards you require.

I must add that i do not work, nor am i connected to Harpers in any way, but if someone from the store reads this, i expect a large discount on my next visit :stuck_out_tongue:

As for the BMF, i dont think you will get a better deal from anywhere else, if you can wait till may, that would be my choice.

Happy shopping

thanks guys is kangeroo leather any good??

Kangaroos swear by it :stuck_out_tongue: :):w00t:

Wolf leathers USED to only be made in the UK, but now it’s just the custom fit stuff, the off the peg stuff is made in Pakistan.

I’ve still got a one piece suit of theirs from about 12 years ago (they were called ‘Gear’ rather than Wolf back then) & it’s still in great condition despite having been crashed in more than once & my near complete lack of maintainance.

Alpinestars owners may wish to look away now…

Whole thread is useful, but the 2nd last post gives good advice on general leathers buying as well as an interesting point about how kangaroo skin reacts with sweat. :ermm:

I went to all the bike shops tried on all brands and all price ranges, one piece and two piece, took onboard loads of advice, made a note of what sizes fitted me, what brands I liked.

Then I spent three weeks watching ebay looking for a fairly new set of leathers, you will always get a biker who has’nt done their research and they buy too small or too big, they then sell off the leathers so they can correct their mistake.

The other one is bikers get fatter as they get older and have to sell their leathers. because they thought they were thinner than they actually are.

I picked up a set of Alpinestars original cost £700, I paid £200, mint condition only worn a few times, no marks.

Never pay shop prices, rip off.

It’s all down to personal choice, what fits best, what looks good with your bike + oldguys right they do stretch so don’t be afraid to buy them tight.

Tightwad!

Not all bikers get fatter as hey get older, yerbastad.

Nice one oldguy, sadly I’m not far behind you in years and no I,m not fat yet either, but I am grey.

As for tightwad your spot on, I tend to call it older and wiser.
