Motorcycle bagpacks

I am looking to get a bagpack for gym use in order to use it when riding. Something like this or maybe a bit bigger. Do these really design for riding therefore worth the money or any other bagpack will do the same job?

Have a look in Lillywhites, the sports shop.

We were in the ski department a week or two ago and they had hundreds of rucksacks in the sale, most of the smaller ones would be suitable for what you need and they were much cheaper than that one:)

i just wear a normal bagpack, have no problems with it

Have a look at the Ride Magazine reviews

I’ve got the Knox Six Pack which is fairly big but comfortable whilst wearing - pretty waterproof as well. Can’t afford or justify the cost of a Kriega although people rave about them who own them.

By the way M&P have a 10% discount code at the moment - JAN18.

Kriega seem really tempting, but the price!

That Alpine Stars one seems nice though, beautiful looking.

Consider a tank bag or tail pack also. I hate riding while wearing a bag.

You won’t go wrong with a Kriega tail pack. Used my US10 for a couple of years to carry stuff to and from work in all weathers and it’s still as good as new. Not that expensive when you consider the advantages over a rucksack.

i prefer my backpack over my tank bag. when i get off i just find it hassle unzipping it to get it off even though it doubles up as a rucksack, then its annoying putting it back on

+1

I hate riding with anything on my back but the times when I’ve had no choice the Knox Six Pack wins every time. I’ve tried various ones but nothing is as comfortable as the Knox.

Thanks for the useful advices. I started looking into tank and tail bags as well.

Have to agree withe Ange, but if you cant afford a Knox Six Pack, Iv had few problems with Julie who until the end of the month has a 20% discount.:w00t:

without it seeming like i am being doom and gloom

before considering getting a back pack consider the consequences of using bag especially with bulky items in it ( trainers etc ) in the event of an rta and you landing on that lump heavily and what it could do to your spine or the friction in a slide and the effect that can cause .

get a tail pack or tank bag is my advice

Having just got a Kriega rucksack i have to say they are extremely comfy and you hardly know it’s on your back. I hated riding with a rucksack until i bought this one. With regards to tail packs, i do not trust them. I have heard some nasty things happen to people that have had teh tail pack slip and get caught in the rear wheel. Ok so there are some better options than others like the Venturi system but i would just worry too much about something i can’t see. Tank bags are def my preffered option and i would opt for the Baglux/Bagster set. Failing that the ruck sack gets it for me.

Magnetic tank bag with a shoulder sling is the best option in my opinion - just bung it on the tank and then peel it off when you get to your destination and sling it over your shoulder.

Better than a rucksack because as mentioned less danger of having a tin of baked beans (or whatever else that is hard and bulky in it) go barrelling into your spine/ribs if you get hit by something or hit the deck hard.

Also as mentioned - got reservations about tail packs etc because i’ve heard of 90 mph rear wheel lock ups when the bags go awol. Not only that - when you arrive you have to unclip/unbungee them (if you don’t want to have them nicked) - unlike the magnet tank bag which you just peel off the tank.

Thats all very well asuming you have a metal tank and not a plastic covered one or a fibreglass one like on the Ducati!!!:stuck_out_tongue:

The LIDL one I bought early last year is still going and it only cost £17! Strong magnets, clear plastic top pocket, holds a lot (expandable), loop for headstock/ over the shoulder and an integrated waterproof cover. You can even remove the ‘bag’ part and just have a clear plastic pocket for maps etc instead!

Having travelled with tail packs fitted over a large distances in the past few years never have i found it to move … and this is a standard cheapy tail pack

9/10 tail pack incidents are caused by the user failing to ensure that pack is attached as per manufacturers instruction …( not using all the bungees ) or using mounting locations that are not strong enough … All tail packs i have seen come fitted with a under seat strap that as instructions should be fitted therefor in the event of any of the other mountings failing the pack still remains or failing to load it corrctly ( placing heavy items on top making it top heavy)

have them fixed so that it is hard to remove and have an inner bg that you just pull out with all you want inside it and as mentioned about non magnetic tanks …baglux do a range of tank covers failing that get a top box on a motech system very inobtrusive when box not fitted

True! Speaking personally though all my bikes are so old I’ve never experienced these new fangled plastic tanks!

The Kriega tailpacks can be used as a tankbag on any bike. There’s a convertor that straps any Kriega tailpack onto your tank. It’s a bit pricey though, like the rest of their stuff.
