MOT time...quick question.

My bike is due an MOT but it has a small crack on the headlight due to my accident in December, I’m still waiting to get paid out so I can repair the bike.

The crack is probably no more than 10mm in length and doesn’t affect the main beam. Will this be a fail?

I have read that any chip or crack is a fail but I have also read people stating they have had no problems with a cracked headlight. Has anyone got any experience with this??

Mine passed with a crack. Hope that helps.

as long as it doesn’t affect the alignment, or have sharp edges it’ll be fine…

Tape it up and it’ll be fine

I reversed the Bonne into the back of Mrs Arts Astra, not once but twice, her fault entirely by parking too close to the stable door. End result was broken lenses to both rear light clusters. Fortunately the broken part was the white reversing light part, a fairly clean hole punch through the lens cover by the pannier frame. Patched it up with some heavy duty clear waterproof tape I had hanging around to prevent any water ingress and it passed the MOT without mention

It’s also a matter of how much effect the crack has on the beam, water ingress, if you have a dual headlamp etc…

And of course how polite and reasonable you are with the MOT tester

Shouldn’t be an issue as the test is all about how things are (performance) at the time of the test.

That said, some testers can be a bit bloody minded. I’d seal up the crack with some super glue (for glass) to show that you do care about the crack and to save the headlight reflector from rusting anyway.

Ride around the backroads until the headlight is covered in grime & flies.
