ON a more opinonated note, 1) he is a cock and I don’t agree that this Britain is now like Nazi Germany, BUT 2) I do agree that patriotism and flag waving showing Britain to be this successful and wonderful place to be is as naive as suggesting we are now Nazis.
We are in a double dip recession, house prices are falling, uinemployment is rising, growth has dropped.

Sorry Toby but comparisons with the “patriotism” displayed in Nazi Germany are way wide of the mark.
If Morrissey or you anyone else for that matter has a problem with the sudden surge of patriotism then that is ok and also perhaps understandable. Personally I was almost physically sick with the flag-waving and gushing that was displayed at the Royal Wedding last year.
But how can you defend Morrissey’s comparison with Nazi Germany. Their “patriotism” was born out of huge financial desperation and a desire to put right the wrongs of having their arses handed to them during World War I. Their patriotism was based in facism and racism, a belief in the Aryan race!!!
Are you really telling me their are similarities to the patriotism we are seeing displayed at the moment, if so you might need to go to Specsavers and take Morrissey with you.

But, what this country needs right now, with all the points that Toby makes, is a bit of a lift and a reason to feel like England is a good place to be. I’m not really one for the Olympics, but they’ve managed to put on a good show, not really cock anything up, and our team GB athletes are doing us proud.
So all in all, now is a good time, and the majority of people are getting a buzz from the show we’ve put on, along with the medals we’re achieving.
Why not be proud, or would we have preferred it all to have been rubbish, so we could be typically British and have more stuff to moan about?

I am fairly ambivalent to the flag waving and anthem singing, but am extremely proud of our athletes. These guys work hard and to achieve success is something to admire and applaud.
His opinion is not important…but the fact that he is making such stupid claims and Sky News are actually giving him a platform to air such views just winds me up.
People use the term “Nazi” far to loosely and I think it shows a level of ignorance about what the Nazis and Nazism is all about. Which is quite worrying because to water down this terrible period of human history by flinging the term around willy-nilly reduces the impact of the lessons humanity must learn from it and to ensure it never happens again.
In fairness, this is the same bloke who pranced round the topt stage with a small shrubbery stuck down his arse crack. I’m not sure how much space he deserves here…
In the early 90’s morrisey went onstage at a gig full of skinheads draped in a union jack and got accused of racism - you’d think he would have learned something from it.

As someone who personally knows a Holocaust survivor and having listened to him tell of his experiences at the hands of Nazi’s, perhaps you can understand why I would like to punch Morrissey in his ignorant face. Even now thinking about the things this person experienced brings a lump to my throat. People like Morrissey should listen to the first-hand experiences of these people whilst they still can and learn what it was actually all about and like.

This guy has lost a lot of respect in recent years because of the shite he periodically comes out with - no one really takes him seriously anymore.
