Moped recommendations

Hi all,

A friend of mine is taking her first steps into the 2-wheeled world, and wants to buy a moped. Budget’s about £650 max - has anyone any recommendations on what make/model to go for? Anyone know any good moped dealers around the High Wycombe area?

Cheers!

Peugeot Elyseo!

Similar to a Dylan, but it (the Dylan) has less under-seat storage. If you can get one with a top box, you have room for 5-6 bags of shopping.

I’ve moved this thread into Scooters and small bikes

Keep saving and buy a Honda Zoomer, they are awesome!

When you say “moped” do you really mean restricted 50cc? Unless she is 16 I would recommend something bigger.

If it is really a moped she is after, a Zip (make sure it is two stroke as the four strokes are much, much slower) in reasonable condition can be bought for about half that budget.

(thanks for moving this into the right forum Lusty!)

Cheers for the responses all! I believe for now she’s going to do the CBT and stick with that before thinking about the DAS. I may be wrong here, but aren’t you limited to 50cc with just the CBT?

If you are 16 a CBT entitles you to ride a 50cc restricted to 31mph.

If you are 17 or over a CBT entitles you to ride a 125cc machine.

Isn’t that restricted in power too? (12bhp or summut?)

Yes, but unless it is one of a small number of two strokes it is a bit academic - unlike the difference between a 31mph 50cc machine and a 60mph one.

So a 33bhp Aprilia RS125 is academic compared to a 12bhp learner legal one?;)

I did think about putting in a rider about the small number of two stroke 125s that can be derestricted to stupid levels with that bike in mind, but decided that given the original poster’s questions, it probably wasn’t the bike they were after!

[Edit] Hang on! I did put in a rider about derestricted two strokes!

Cool - thanks for clearing that up!
