monkey wrench!!!!

Monkeys with wrenches,

Got my bike back from the garage last week after having the most expensive plug fitted due to a screw in the rear tire.

Since then Ive found I have a knocking noise when pulling away? Started Checking all the major stuff like calipers, forks, wheels, nuts… “****… woooohhhaaaa :w00t: look at me fricken chain”. Bloody monkeys in the garage took off the wheel, plugged it and replaced the wheel, and left it at that. Seriously must be 90- 100mm of play. Plus theyve .put the accel in the wrong way so the nut is on the wrong side of the swinger

Fricken monkeys I tell ya!

Oi!

That’s Monkeyist that is:w00t:

If a job’s worth doing… do it yourself:cool:

Seriously…Download a manual and buy a set of spanners:)

flippin hell! start looking after yr bike youeself, mate. at least you’ll laugh it off if you break something yourself + you’ll get more confident of the bike.

woah woah woah…

I never said anything about not ding stuff myself… I do all my servicing the lot! I took the bike in for the tire to be plugged.

professional plug set cost’s bout 20-25 quid - pays for its self in two punctures (one if you have to have it recovered???

Did you phone them up and tell em what happened?

Are you gonna name and shame:D

Mind you after having FWR fit a pair of Bridges, I got home to find the adjusters were back to front on the rear, and the arrow marked on the rim of the front wheel was running backwards… should have checked before riding away i spose!

Wife took my back wheel off to my local tyre place in SE London and they rang me to ask which side the sprocket was on. They has taken the tyre off and were about to fit the tyre back on a couldnt remember which way round it went. Good on them for actually calling me to find out and not just bunging it on.

lol. there is nothing better than a loose screw inside the engine! happened to me once before

My sentiment exactly… Its my fault as I should have checked and picked them up on it. Ahrr well all is well now! And I wasnt calling mechanics monkeys by the way, just this particular chimp!!! :stuck_out_tongue:

Erm - how the hell is it your fault for not checking a ‘professional’ persons work. That’s the whole point of paying somebody to do it for you. Not all of us have the ability, or desire to maintain our bikes ourselves.

I had my front sprocket changed at P&H in surrey and on my way home the shift rod fell off the gearbox end!!! I wasnt happy and I spose I was really lucky as well. They were very apologetic but that was about it. Amazingly the screw had fallen into the bike and I replaced it after limping home in 2nd. And I agree ‘check what?’ I paid an expert to do that.

The moral of the story is to do whatever you can yourself and take loose wheels in to be re-shod:cool:

Not only do you save £££s you know it’s done properly:cool:

I go to micheldever tyre in micheldever Doh, they take the wheel off re-tighten the chain to the right tollerances tell me if they notice anything wrong with the bearings or wheel or brakes etc…they are good and for a few quid its not at all bad guys.

I dont take my own wheels off if I can help it, I am usually riding the thing. It sounds like you were well done by these dudes, crap service, expenmsive and no its not your place to inspect their work…if it is wrong you should have taken it back and demanded they put it right…I know a pain but its the only real way to stop these clowns from mucking about with every customer they have.

The question is “Are they experts?” In my experience of bike and tyre changes quite often such jobs are given to the Apprentice/YTS boy. :w00t:

I agree that its good to work on your bike if you can but IF paying someone to do a job that you cant (for whatever reason) you expect it done right. I bought a full workshop manual from ebay and with its guidance i changed my exhaust system, body panels, rear sprocket etc without prior knowledge at all. However, I found an excellent bike mechanic that fitted my new starter motor on my R1, Mark at M-Tek he is cheaper than the shops, he comes to you and he is top notch at what he does, he has alot of experience prepping race bikes etc. If you live near to Croydon then PM me for his number, I highly recommend him:)
