Module 2

Hi everyone!
I’m preparing for module 2 right now. Please tell me if those procedures are correct:

MAJOR to minor road>>

RIGHT TURN >>
On being told to turn RIGHT ->>

  1. Check both mirrors, understand what is around and ahead >>
  2. Indicate >>
  3. RIGHT LIFESAVER and position the bike as near to the centre line as safe >>
  4. Adjust speed (use brakes to show traffic you are slowing).Select suitable gear >>
  5. RIGHT LIFESAVER before committing >>
  6. Turn using clutch control if necessary >>

  10. Accelerate as appropriate>>

LEFT TURN >>
On being told to turn LEFT->>

  1. Check both mirrors, understand what is around and ahead >>
  2. Indicate >>
  3. LEFT LIFESAVER and position the bike slightly left of centre >>
  4. Adjust speed (use brakes to show traffic you are slowing).Select the suitable gear >>
  5. LEFT LIFESAVER>>
  6. Turn using clutch control if necessary >>
  7. Look ahead for speed signs, parked cars etc>>
  8. Cancel indicator>>

  10. Accelerate as appropriate>>

minor to MAJOR ROAD>>

RIGHT TURN >>
On being told to turn RIGHT ->>

  1. Check both mirrors, understand what is around and ahead >>
  2. Indicate >>
  3. RIGHT LIFESAVER and position the bike as near to the centre line as safe >>
  4. Adjust speed (use brakes to show traffic you are slowing).Downshift gears and get ready to stop if necessary >>
  5. Look RIGHT – LEFT - RIGHT>>
  6. RIGHT LIFESAVER before committing >>
  7. Turn using clutch control if necessary (glance LEFT to check nothing going to sideswipe you)>>
  8. Look ahead for speed signs, parked cars etc>>
  9. Cancel indicator>>
  10. Check mirrors >>
  11. Accelerate as appropriate>>

LEFT TURN>>
On being told to turn LEFT ->>

  1. Check both mirrors, understand what is around and ahead >>
  2. Indicate >>
  3. LEFT LIFESAVER and move closer to kerb >>
  4. Adjust speed (use brakes to show traffic you are slowing).Downshift gears and get ready to stop if necessary >>
  5. Look RIGHT – LEFT - RIGHT>>
  6. LEFT LIFESAVER before committing >>
  7. Turn using clutch control if necessary >>
  8. Look ahead for speed signs, parked cars etc>>
  9. Cancel indicator>>
  10. Check mirrors >>
  11. Accelerate as appropriate>>

Note:
Arriving at a major road from a minor road don’t go unless absolutely sure. Major roads tend to be busy so just stop at the line and do all your checks again. Being careful isn’t a problem. It’s better than pulling out and failing due to dangerous driving.>>

Just look RIGHT – LEFT – RIGHT as your immediate danger is from the right. Make sure before you move off you check over your left and right shoulders and then finally do another life saver over your right if turning right, Left if turning left. And always make sure it is clear or there is enough room before you go.>>

ROUNDABOUTS:>>

Tip 1: Look for Sign showing lanes & exits and work out what lane to be in for Left, Tip 2:Don’t change lanes at last moment – proceed the way the lane goes if you are in wrong lane>>

LEFT EXIT>>
On being told to turn LEFT at Roundabout->>

  1. LEFT EXIT always LEFT LANE >>
  2. Check both mirrors, understand what is around and ahead >>
  3. Indicate >>
  4. LEFT LIFESAVER and position the bike slightly left of centre >>
  5. Adjust speed (use brakes to show traffic you are slowing).Select the suitable gear (down or possibly up) >>
  6. Head Up looking RIGHT into roundabout>>
  7. Proceed when way is clear and do LEFT LIFESAVER as you turn>>
  8. Look ahead for speed signs, parked cars etc>>
  9. Cancel indicator>>
  10. Check mirrors >>
  11. Accelerate as appropriate>>

AHEAD EXIT>>
On being told to go AHEAD at Roundabout->>

  1. AHEAD is usually left lane or middle lane unless no right exit on roundabout then AHEAD is probably right lane >>
  2. Check both mirrors, understand what is around and ahead >>
  3. LEFT LIFESAVER and position the bike slightly left of centre of your lane >>
  4. Adjust speed (use brakes to show traffic you are slowing).Select the suitable gear (down or possibly up) >>
  5. Head Up looking RIGHT into roundabout>>
  6. Proceed when way is clear and follow lane around>>
  7. Indicate as you pass exit before AHEAD and look into each exit/LEFT LIFESAVER>>
  8. Possible RIGHT LIFESAVER as you exit in case vehicle cuts in from right lane>>
  9. Look ahead for speed signs, parked cars etc>>
  10. Cancel indicator>>
  11. Check mirrors >>
  12. Accelerate as appropriate>>

RIGHT EXIT>>
On being told to go RIGHT at Roundabout->>

  1. RIGHT is always RIGHT lane >>
  2. Check both mirrors, understand what is around and ahead >>
  3. Indicate Right>>
  4. RIGHT LIFESAVER and change lane >>
  5. Adjust speed (use brakes to show traffic you are slowing).Select the suitable gear (down or possibly up) >>
  6. LEFT LIFESAVER to check what’s happening beside you>>
  7. Head Up looking RIGHT into roundabout>>
  8. Proceed when way is clear and follow lane around>>
  9. Indicate left as you pass exit before RIGHT and look (LEFT LIFESAVER) into each exit.>>
  10. LEFT LIFESAVER as you exit and especially if crossing lanes>>
  11. Look ahead for speed signs, parked cars etc>>
  12. Cancel indicator>>
  13. Check mirrors >>
  14. Accelerate as appropriate>>

UNMARKED JUNCTIONS>>

  1. Generally in housing areas – look for gaps in houses/parked cars etc>>
  2. Don’t assume priority. >>
  3. Slow using BRAKES. Look RIGHT – LEFT – RIGHT>>
  4. Proceed cautiously >>
  5. Check mirrors>>
  6. Accelerate back up to speed>>

If yes, then some of the people may find this useful as well

sounds about right:

keep using OSM:PSL for everything, OSM is the preparation

Observation (mirror check)

Signal

Manouvere

and PSL is for the manouvere

Position

speed

look

So for all right turns check your mirrors, if clear do a shoulder check/LS and then move to the right hand side of road. Slow to correct speed or stop. Final shoulder check/LS before turning. Unless there is an obstruction stay on your own side of the road and accelerate away.

Left turns, all the same but move to left hand side of the road. Don’t forget last shoulder check/LS before left hand turn.

Lizzie

(passed mod 2 twice, once on a 125 scooter, then again on a 500 geared)

I’ve never thought about it in that much detail…:w00t:

And after reading the first one I gave up… But that one looked correct so I assume the others are…

TBH the way to do it is as follows:

Right Turn --> Turn right
Left Turn —> Turn Left

And if anyone gets in your way, give them a flick, ok? :stuck_out_tongue:

you’re thinking it through too much, many a persons downfall in the test.

driving or riding is more something we do naturally once taught, habit, an autonomous thing, what that thought should be going into is what happening in front of you, behind you, to the sides, ride using a commentary, and the control should be happening without too much thought.

i did spot the odd mistake in there not to serious just depends on the situation/junction at the time as mel said far far to much i was gonna post my quick and simple guide to junctions but i died of old age reading the original post :stuck_out_tongue:
