My folks brought me a model of Rossi’s bike to make for Christmas. Started painting the fairing last night but it went a bit wrong. The finish just basically looks cack! Is there anyway I can remove the paint from the plastics or at least take the top layer off so I can give it another go and be a little more careful this time?
If you have used the model enamel try a little white spirit or nail varnish remover (the best bet not as harsh) on a bit of paper towel and wash the part you have done with soap and water after to stop the plastic going soft but please becarefull all paint cleaners are harsh on plastic
Cheers mate I shall give that a try! Ta
Not sure what paint you used but you can get small spray cans of paint for models. You have to make sure that the plastics are clean and free from anything that will counteract with the paint. Model paint works best at certain temperatures as well, cant remember what it is but I am sure a decent model shop could tell you.
Alternatively, the finest emery paper you can find, used wet, to take the paint off, then polish using a very fine paste (toothpaste!) to restore the surface. Same things apply as with full-size painting, complete cleanliness and thin layers. Good luck.
Micky’s got the best plan.
Tel, I’ve made more models in my life than you’ve had hot dinners mate. DO NOT go near it with any solvents. You’ll make a god-awful mess. Prob works ok on the harder shells of RC cars, but not Tamiya (I presume) soft plastic.
Wet’n Dry sandpaper, 800 grade and lots of water. Repaint. Lightly sand (not back to plastic). Repeat. Johnsons ‘Klear’ floor polish (trust me), put on decals, re coat with Klear.
Job done.
Give me a bell if you get stuck.
In my experiance, what you need is an Irish screwdriver
LOL works every time
