Michael Dunlop to ride R1 at TT

11 times TT winner Michael Dunlop will race the new Yamaha YZF R1 superbike in 2015.

The 25 year old has just announced that he has agreed terms to ride the all new Japanese superbike on the roads under the banner of Shaun Muir’s Milwaukee Yamaha team.

Exciting times! I think he’d win on a wheel-barrow, but this new R1 looks like its a serious bit of kit

he’s at the top of his game right now, I wondered why he didn’t sign with BMW again but this makes a lot of sense for him to ride this new model.

I suspect Michael Dunlop is probably a hard guy to work with, particularly in terms of getting him to do something he might not be that keen on. However the TT organisers will have moved heaven and earth to get him a good ride for this year!

However, this is great for the TT - they need top riders in good teams. Yamaha haven’t won a big bike TT for years - particularly as the last two years they’ve had a far-from-fit Ian Hutchinson.

Really looking forward to seeing it all pan out over there this summer

Yeah, with a record like his he can drive a really hard bargain, and with a record like Yamaha’s they’d be willing to pay over-the-odds for a chance at anything on the podium. He wants loads of money and they’re willing to spend it. BMW don’t need a winner on theirs now they’ve got 'im off the telly riding for them.

Wow this is going to be interesting to see. That guy on that bike

The last victory for an R1 at the Isle of Man was back in 2005 - with McGuinness winning the Superbike TT and Senior TTs
