well i found it funny
and i am mental apparently…well manic depressive…sort of counts thats why i come on L.b…To stay happy!
I can see where you’re coming from, mechanic old bean (having been there and back several times myself) so well done you for just mentioning it so people don’t JUST laugh at the joke (which was very funny) but also have a bit of a think about prejudice re mental illness.
When I was suffering from a bout of depression serious enough to warrant prescription drugs and a check on whether I’d done anything nasty to myself from my GP, I mentioned my troubles to my boss. This was several years ago. Poor sod didn’t know where to put himself as he hadn’t had adequate training. He didn’t know how to deal with it or how he could protect himself or the company from any prospective litigation (we’d just done a course on employment law the week before that I’d been on as well, poor sod!) so he was totally clueless how to handle the situation. In that particular instance he just needed to be aware that I had a medical condition and that I might (but as it happened I didn’t) need some additional ‘consideration’ in certain circumstances.
SuziC it was a very funny joke, don’t feel bad about posting it.
Itsthemechanic, you’ve raised a very valuable ‘awareness’ vibe, so well done you too.
Now can you all just get on with laughing your socks off and posting more jokes about minorities so we can all laugh a little bit more! (FFS we need to, were about to end up with Gordon ‘Smiley’ Brown as our Prime Minister!)
