Mechanical problem, Yamaha R1 ,06 model, oil leak - Help needed

Yamaha YZF-R1, 06 model (11 Months old) bought Brand new on 1/3/07 -

well I have done 17,300 miles on My pride and Joy and enjoyed every mile apart from the 6 Pre-delivery inspection miles

was out Friday night just leaving Poppins to go to the square ,when i got there had noticed that my left boot was saturated only to find that oil was leaking from the bike looked that it was splashing too,

anyway had it recovered removed the bottom fairing cleaned the engine down to see where exactly the oil is coming from , i have identified that the oil is leaking from the generator casing from the gasket and not the bolts, i9 have checked the torque settings on the bolts and there ok,

Now if I’m right there shouldn’t be any oil in behind the generator cover from were it is leaking in the first place ?

which i have seen a diagram of the generator cover online, and it shows a O-ring that normally needs replacing if taken apart

has anyone come across this problem on this model bike and is there anything else it can be apart from replacing the O-ring behine the generator spindle and the generator Gasket

Seems to be no more than 2 hours work for the average good mechanic, is there anybody that might do this for me with out ripp off labour charges

I can probably get this done under my warrenty but can not wait a few weeks for my bike to be inspected then days fixing it ect…

I have taken Pictures of where the oil leak is coming from if needed then i’ll post them up

any help is appreciated as i need her on the road as soon as …

Oh, forgot to tell you today, when I’d picked up my 06 R1 I think about a month or so later I noticed it had dropped some of its coolant. Just a dribble. Took it to my dealer and they ordered new hoses for it. Think they might have changed the water pump gasget too, all done under warranty. I didn’t have to stop riding it though, just kept an eye on the water bottle level. Agreed it is a pain to wait for them to fix it, just depends how busy they are.

Take it down to Southern Cross Motorcycles in Kilburn or order the gasket and do it yerself mate.

Get an old matress and lay the bike down on its side…Open the case…Take out and discard old gasket…Replace with new one and torque up all bolts in a criss cross fashion.

No need to change oil.

I used this method to change the clutch plates on my R6 a few years back.

PS. By the way, If Andy hasn’t told you, I will be a volunteer for the France trip…PM me what I need to do and where I need to be and when. I’m all booked on with the girlfriend.

Cheers mate.

It depends where you are located, if any where near croydon or bromley then call Mark at M Tek, he is a mobile bike mechanic, real good and reasonable prices too. He works on my R1.
